Living Room has information about a bunch of new cameras from Pentax (and one from Sanyo), including this 5.36-megapixel Pentax Optio SV [pictured right], a slim-profile camera with a 5x optical zoom; and the Sanyo Xacti VPC A5, another 5-megapixel camera, although this one has only a 2.8x optical zoom. In addition, Pentax has a new DSLR (called the “*ist” – what is it with camera companies and unpronounceable names? Asteriskist? Wildcardist? Starist? Multiplyist? Fireballist?) and a pistol-grip hybrid camera/camcorder coming out, as well.
I love this form factor, though. Five megapixels in your pocket – without any sort of awkward glance-inducing lumps – is a really great thing, and will be indispensable for the next few years while we wait for cameraphones to catch up in quality. Also, I like playing with little slidey switches.
