Sony has announced a high-resolution 3 CCD HD camcorder that should come in at under $5,000. This camera will be the first official ‘HDV’ standard camera, a high-definition format agreed upon by Sony, JVC, Canon, and Sharp. While JVC was first-to-market last year with a single CCD HD camcorder, it looks like this Sony ‘prosumer’ model could be the first HD unit to make a dent in the market. Although it has not been announced for the U.S. market, it is very likely some version of the camera will be released here. [Thanks, Gabe!]
