Well yeah, because then you couldn't attach it to the bottom of the regular iPod...the jack would be in the way. They'd have to make two versions, and I guess they weren't inclined to do so.

You shouldn't put a plug there, you'd use the audio signals in the universal connector... thus one model, all non-Shuffle iPods again.

I'd like to hear how it compares to the belkin "tune talk pro", which is the same basic concept. I've tried the ttp at a live show, and the mics were pretty easily overdriven, meaning i'll probably have to use an external mic. wonder if the belkin has the same problem.

other than that, you can't ask for a more convenient recording solution from either of these devices, especially at 16/44.1.

In the previous iTalk, the mic jack doubled as a headphone jack. I'd be suprised if that was not the case here.

Even if that's the case though, you still can't plug in an external mic AND listen to what you're recording at the same time.

Yes, the product page says stereo @ cd quality (16 bit 44khz), althought I'm guessing you probably wont get a very wide stereo image with 2 mics placed directly next to each other.

I'm pretty psyched about this, I still have the original iTalk, and its pretty good, even though its only capable of 22khz I think... I've been waiting for this for a while, I'm surprised its taken so long, and an input! Freakin sweet!

Strider what do you mean you have to pay extra for voice recording?

not only stereo ... but unlike the original iTalk it actually records in decent quality. as in 16-bit @ 44.1KHz CD-quality vs. crappy 8KHz digital answering machine quality like the first one.

this literally took forever to come out though. i remember thinking 'any day now!' in March.
