First of all, There is the Ipod 'fanboys' as some eloquently call them. 5 generations of a mp3 player that had a rocky start has evolved into a cultural icon. Bravo apple, well done.

Microsoft, who has a reputation of being the uber-monopoly and creating purportedly bad products. Some may even agree in the analogy of Betamax versus VHS that Microsoft, in this case, is VHS, being the inferior product but most widely used.

Now that microsoft came into the market with their own player, everyone is up in arms. some say, microsoft is copying off of the ipod or something. Well, lets be honest here, what isn't a copy of something else?

My point is, there has not been a concise, thoughtful reason put fourth for why the Zune is a bad player. I have yet to see anything that makes the Zune greater then the Ipod. Only time will tell. I personally don't own a Zune, but from playing with it every day at work, I personally love the Zune wholeheartedly, and love it's layout. The hierarchal menu scheme is something that I am quite tired of. It's time for a change, and Due to the zune's colors and different layout, It is a breath of fresh air.

I'm not bashing the Ipod or anything. Although I have delt with 100's of broken Ipods in my line of work and continue to see them break under what seems to be the gentlest of circumstances, I do believe anything that has developed into a cultural icon deserves respect. I also believe something shouldn't be considered down and out for the count right when it enters the ring.

Remeber, Ipods sucked when they first appeared.

I'll leave you now, I'm off to pick up my Zune.

If the Zune's only key feature, WiFi, was actually useful and the player wasn't crippled by DRM then I'd probably be singing a different tune.

Why would I want to borrow someone else's music for 3 plays/3 days? I don't know where it has been or wither or not its host computer has come down with a virus that could have been transfered from their machine to my zune then to my machine if and when I decide to plug a seemingly innocuous zune into my computer for a file transfer.

Put it this way walmart has them for sale... if walmart sells things there pretty much bound to sell a decent bit of them.

With microsoft saying they plan to invest a few hundred million over the first 2-4 years of the zune life line i can say the zunes arent going anywhere and will only get more widespread as time progresses... people seem to forget they said the same thing aobut the xbox and look now its a early nextgen console thats beating the last gen winner with a rubber trout in every game by game review....

People seem to always want to compair the 360 launch games vs the ps3 launch games, and ignore the fact the 360 launch was a year ago and is now outdated... but when it comes to the zune those same people want to compair current zune against current ipod... why not follow u're same ps3 mentality... and in that case the ipod 1 vs the zune 1 is a wash lol... now the iPod 5.5 vs the zune ... i still give it to the zune, for screen size and the fact that its built to be future compatible unlike any ipod ever.

Its a v1 product people, stop beign so assinine even microsoft said it was released quickly to get a foothold in the market even a small one for this holiday, but they forsee it taking 2-5 years for them to be fully compettiive inthe marketplace.

It's also funny people keep saying "whenthe touchscreen super video ipod with xxxxxxxx features is released" the zune line will be dead... even though apple and many insiders have consistently denied they would ever release a ipod of that sort... meanwhile you have microsoft saying they are internally working on a zune phone, zune video, and a zune micro....

stop being fanboys, the fact is ms never said the v1 would make significant marketshare, only ipod fanboys saw it as them saying that and ignored the fact they said it was a 5 year goal.

Who cares if it's in "limited edition" pink or orange, the whole Zune species will be extinct soon enough... and I doubt the "limited color" items like these would appreciate much in actual value over the years. Remember when the 4G U2 iPod was considered a "limited edition" item when it was first offered?

Wait so they hide these in the regular white, black, and brown Zunes and leave it as a 'surprise'.

If I got one of these when I wanted a regular black Zune, I'd be super-pissed.

umm, until you realize you can sell it for $500 and then go buy a real black one and pocket some extra cash. i'd be real pissed if that happened to me...
