Even though I have a big hippy beard right now I fell victim to Gillette's 5 blade Fusion that vibrates. The few times I've tried it I haven't been too impressed, especially when comparing to my Mach3. I will say the one thing different about it that I like is the single blade when you flip it over, great for under the nose and around the 'stach.
ddy

Somehow, the thought of nanobots burrowing into my face to chew the hairs off below skin level is just a bit too much like a bad case of delerium tremens....
Cardinal Fang

I bought a Fusion knowingly being suckered into a marketing ploy.... however, its the shit. Markedly better than the Mach 3 as much as I was hoping to be pissed that I bought it.

In regards to number of blades... I think that 14 in 2100 is way off. I think by 2010 is much more accurate. I remember reading when the Mach3 came out that Mach's vision is to have an automatic razor that's the same size as a standard razor like the Mach 3. I think we'll see real advances in blade technology that will create much SMALLER blades, allowing more to be placed on one razor. I'm guessing micromachining/etching will be the next breakthrough allowing razor makers to really step it up to the next level.
Keebler

i *almost* bought a Fusion the other day when getting Mach 3 blades... cause they had balloons everywhere and end-aisle displays... but then realized the 3-blade thing works perfectly fine... the 4-blade i tried once kinda sucked.

i read on lifehacker (maybe?) about the best shave actually just being a single-blade safety razor. some guy commented on that fact and linked to some shaving blog (yes... serious.) i read a bunch on it and decided i'd probably try a safety razor before moving to the 5-6+ blade deals.
x23

Nah, I believe a different curve, the one of my face. No way 14 blades can be placed close enough to each other to allow each and every one of them to get close to the skin. If they place blades any closer than the two blade rasor I have now, then the damn thing will clog up even quicker.

I believe in genetic modification. Buy my "Hair Select" tonic. Apply 3 times daily on those places where you don't want hair to grow and we guarantee that within a week you will no longer need to shave....ever.
Dinther

Any aussies remember the Gillette 3000 sketch from the Late Show (circa 1992)? They were advitising Gillette's new 16 blade razor (in typical Gillette manly-man voice over):

The first blade distracts the hair, while the second and third blades sneak up behind it, cutting off any escape routes. The fourth and fifth blades attempt to coax the hair from its hiding place using modern modern counselling techniques while the sixth blade, posing as a passing motorist, acts as a decoy, allowing the seventh and eighth blades to swoop down and quickly overpower the hair. The ninth blade, disguised as a postman, administers a small dose of chloroform, allowing blades 10 through 13 to remove the hair and escort it away for further questioning. The 14th blade informs the hair of its rights. The 15th blade handles the paperwork and the 16th blade, well, it's just along for the ride.

(kudos to adam barr on that one - i couldn't remember it...)
sam_i_am
