"@hansamurai: that and because they make companies create retarded DRMs that just screw up your playing pleasure...
on the flip coin, if games would cost a tad bit cheaper, more people would buy them than d/l them."
"@two cans tied together and thrown down the street to wake u...: ok, for one, every item in the "real world" is made out of itsy bits of atoms, reminds you of anything?
second, these "virtual" items have a very "real" value and they sustain a very strong business market of gold/item sellers.
So both your points are kinda moot.
At the moment, MMOs are still a new and growing concept, even if we have had them for what?"
"used to play both WoW and EVE and all I can say is, holy smokes batman, time sink has never been more fun.
Kill me but I will never do that again, unless someone comes up with an MMO that won't sink hours, months and years of my life down the drain while I could be investing that same time into making huge bundles of REAL money in the REAL world to support my other time sink addictions, crack cocaine, meth and hookers."
"To be honest, the only difference between SecondLife and any major MMOGs out there, is that SecondLife is a virtual sandbox with crappy graphix and no specific rules of engagement, while the MMOGs have super quality graphix but restrictive gaming structure, you cant code anything in game, only interface wise, and you cant code your character from scratch but just create it by the standards the game come preset with.
So, if the scientists are able to actually code their own piece of land with their own physics and scientific laws for whatever experiment they want to, more power to them, they need to consider though that SecondLifes engine sucks ass and will need to redone from scratch in order to accommodate actual scientific research."
