Record Directly to YouTube

youtube.gifSo as of yesterday it was ridiculously easy to record to YouTube. Just record, save, and upload. Done.

Today it got even easier if you have a webcam. Using the Adobe Flash Player API, YouTube can now connect to your webcam and record directly to the site. And by getting rid of the saving and uploading step a huge barrier has been removed for a lot of users. Since saving/uploading have been the biggest complaints about the site this should have a huge impact on the company.

Plus any of you built in webcam users (I'm looking at you MacBook's & MacBook Pro's) you've got a mobile YouTube studio now.

  • Wow, this is pretty nice. But does it get published as soon as you're done? Or could it be a live feed?

  • This is really funny, because about an hour before this was posted, I recorded a video directly into YouTube.

Armed with an iSight, Powerbook 1.25GHz powerbook and my wits... the video was... um.. so-so. The audio kept dropping out but I was able to get the jest.

I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll be doing some more video blogging in the days to come. Lets see how fast I get burnt out on this nifty improvement.

  • Yeah I think this is a mixed blessing as making it even easier to send webcam stuff isn't going to make their content any better quality, gonna make it worse.

This is similar to the number of home improvement and decorating shows on TV, anyone with a camcorder and some paneling has a show about renovations.

I wonder how much stuff Youtube is going to have before there's more people making home movies than watching them. I can see Youtube wanting to have all this content made for them free, but I just checked them and Girlscouts feeding ducks on vacation or someone petting their cat? Seems like the grade point average in the room there keeps going down.

  • Oh great, now even more unedited and terrible videos to plague to the internets. Fabulous. It's like a dream come true.

  • 3g phone + opera mini/opera mobile/phone web browser + camera phone = video moblogging?

wonder if the cameras on camera phones would be recognised by youtube.

  • This new feature it's awesome, but I think I prefer to edit my videos before I upload to You Tube :)

  • Amen Big B...

Also, I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that Youtube's streaming seems to have slowed down to a crawl. Haw anyone else had trouble viewing anything over there lately?

  • AOL has had this feature for months at UnCutVideo.com. The big difference - it actually works, and it publishes the video instantly. It will also upload from a camcorder (even allows you to set in/out -points, and edit sections from the middle). This is broken in the YouTube version.

Odd to see YouTube... following AOL's lead.
