You've got a wireless keyboard, wireless mouse and wireless speakers, so why are you still connecting to your monitor with a cable? What are you, some kind of luddite? You need a wireless monitor connector, like the new WID101 from Teq Gear. This device connects the DVI port on your PC to the one on your monitor over an encrypted 802.11 a. g or b network, squishing the video data down to fit. It'll run at resolutions up to WXGA (1366 by 768 pixels; good enough for a 17-inch LCD screen) and will set you back $995.

i'm sure for somebody, somewhere, this solves a critical problem and is worth the money. but for most of us, we already have a wireless display connected to our home wireless networks, and it's called a laptop. and you can get one for less than what this thing costs.
I think I'll stay with my wired 1920x1200 24" (which costs less than this overpriced thing o.O), thank you very much. Might be good if you're using it for a DVI-ported 1366x768 TV-type thing, though, but almost $1k is ludicrous ...
You still have wire connecting this brick to your monitor and your computer to this brick. And since I'm assuming that you'll have to power this monster too, you actually end up with _more_ wires than you started with. My monitor won't accept the 38 AA batteries needed to run this contraption "wireless" either.
I agree with ZekeSulastin here, the only use I would see is some sort of home theatre set-up. Or maybe an LCD mounted on the wall as a picture frame? You still would have to hide all of the cableage and what-not some how...
I could see a use for this. But not at that price.
> stick computer box in a (well ventilated) cabinet, connected to my home network via 802.11
> wireless keyboard + wireless mouse + wireless controllers
> wireless video to a TV set
I could see this being beneficial for business use instead of running wires. I'm sure this needs very good signal quality at all times to perform well, and that doesn't always happen.
For that kind of price, why not just buy a projector and install it behind you. That way you don't need to look at all of the "messy" wires, and you could still use the wireless keyboard / mouse / controllers combo from wherever you are in the room or cubicle.
Just out of curiousity, could they make a bluetooth transmitter with a Driver CD with that resolution? Or does bluetooth need to go 3.0 for that?
thats a sucky resolution.... i guess it would be ok...
hey! know what else is a good idea? taking all your money and putting it in a big pile in your back yard and pissing on it and then lighting it on fire!
love ya Teq Gear! *SMOOCH*!
I don't think this is targeted at your average home consumer.
"The WID101 is typically used in classrooms and auditoriums, museums, houses of worship, boardrooms, and for digital signage..."
'full motion XCGA DVI-D 30fps video with audio (no latency)' sounds pretty impressive to me. Most 'home entertainment media adapters' can't handle that kind of quality over 802.11g, so I'll have to see it to believe it.
Holy hell, I run my computer in my living room off of my 32" lcd tv across the room and at that resolution, but for almost a grand, I think I'll stick with my 18 feet of extender cables that cost a mere 30 bucks or so.
Pass.
It's a step in the right direction. Of course originally it'll be clunky and expensive like this one but for everyday home use give it a few years.
I think you're all missing the boat. You're all too busy flaming this thing over the price that you've missed the 'coolness' of the technology.
Of course its going to be expensive, like Nate said, wait a few years and it'll be comoditized ( assuming the technology is successfull).
I look forward to seeing how effective this is with the limited bandwidth and interference issues to deal with.
I'll wait till its built into the monitor. Then it will be sweet.
Hmmm, kind of old tech actually:

What this is really nice for is that we can attach it to the projector in our conference room, and then when people come in for presentations, they can hook up from their seat at the front. We used to have AV cables in the floor that ran to the projector, but then not all computers had the connectors, or we got some weird resolution problems.
So for a home user, this doesn't make much sense.
i definitely do not see this for the home theater user...who wants to spend the time and money to set up a home theater just to watch compressed video
I'm waiting for the wireless power adapter for the whole system.
WOW $995, it better display ...... (sorry) wireless interference
I think you miss the point here. This is perfect for research applications or other industrial uses. This is perfect for things like autonomous vehicles or labratory testing systems where a testbed contains many computers, but where you cannot physically run cables. It is not for your desktop. VNC over a wireless network only works so well.
I think Viewsonic can best this with an AirPanel reworked with MIMO.
I'd like to see Smart Displays make a comeback with MIMO.
This would be perfect in an industrial appliction where the safety and the security of the processor is critical and the system only needs to be monitered by an operator using a cheap LCD.
May I make a suggestion?
I just bought the "Accurian HPL Amplified Speaker System" from Radio Shack. . It is a pair of speakers that connects to a wall outlet and then to a small box connected to another wall outlet in another room perhaps. You then connect either speaker wire or rca audio to this "Transmitter" box. The speaker has a receiver inside. They also sold a receiver separately that you can connect to via the audio out. It uses digital information transfer. The quality is Fantastic. Unfortunately this item has been discontinued, but fortunately for me the price was knocked down to $30 from $250. Maybe the idea was too simple to catch on?

My question is has anyone in the field ever considered using this thru the outlet technology for anything else like HDMI? This may lead to PC's in one room connecting to displays in another for Home Entertainment purposes.
This outlet connection has been used for Telephones for a few years now. Each household has its own dedicated electrical circuit already in the walls, why not piggyback on it then limit the wires to ONE!!!

What i really need is a wireless keyboard and monitor combo, the laptop without the guts, something cheap where i can still have my pc but not have to bother with laptops. I want the big pc but i want the monitor, mouse and keyboard to be moveable all over the house, and in one compact unit.
i know there are other options but all of them involve a laptop at some point.....ah well its a flight of fancy thats all.
@aeongirrl: Yes, Its called an Imac... thats one thing I like about the form factor of the Imacs. Just the monitor. Who wants a bulky ass computer tower in their room? Have you ever tried sleeping with one of those things on?
