You ran out as soon as the words MacBook slipped past Saint Jobs' craggy lips and what do you get a few months later? A big skanky notebook covered in sweat stains.
The symptoms of this problem first seem to after appear about 2-3 weeks of use of the Macbook. As you can see in the image to the left, most commonly, yellowish-redish spots appear on the plastic where the palm rests, and on the trackpad button. These spots cannot be removed by any cleaning solution, and seem to only get worse over time.
These strange lesions are caused by heat and hand crud mixing to create one of the most dangerous substances known to man, nerdsweatoluene. Folks are hoping Apple will have a solution for us all, but don't hold your breath. Everyone will soon see your shame.
Apple MacBook discoloration issues [iBloggedThis]

Those white rounded things look so pure and innocent, until some dirty bastard puts his grubby little paws all over em'
I think only solution is to replace the shell. If you get a new macbook, I suppose you could put plastic over those areas like your mom used to put over the nice furniture in the family room... :)
Hmmmmm... I have the urge to start a new company selling latex gloves with the apple logo printed on them. "iGloves"
Any post with the tags "class-action" and "sweat" is bound to be a winner...
Solution: Buy the black one.
lol... and as you can see from the image on the other left... :)
Anyone with a MacBook like that needs to stop spanking it and wash his/her hands. That's not normal. I've had my iBook for over a year and it's barely dirty at all. A little hygiene goes a long way. Even the models in the stores aren't that nasty and they are handled by the unwashed masses who just ate at the food court. The owners of these units are just dirty slobs.
It does feel like it is a sudo-semiporous material, and may collect crud better than other stuff in the past. If mine builds up said crud, the first thing I am going to try is one of those citrus things (I've had good luck with goo-gone and the citrus-based 3M adhesive remover) - they work good for things that you would otherwise need to use acetone, but where acetone damages plastic. Then a damp cloth with mild soap, then damp cloth with no soap.
wow, didn't expect so many 'attack the user' posts. Thought I'd see more 'Apple meant to do this, its called iPatina' or some BS like that. Scratched up iPods, blushing MacBooks, whats next?
To quote one of my favorite episodes of South Park: "I'm going to sue you. Oh, you are so sued."
When will people ever learn. NEVER buy the first version of ANYTHING. ESPECIALLY Apple products.
.... but, Apple design is sent directly from God.... how can anything possibly be wrong with it? I mean, the Macbook was designed by the most intelligent people on the planet for the most intelligent people on the planet, discussion of flaws is sacrilege isn't it?
Actually, my 14" iBook G4 had a similar problem... though it wasn't orange, that I think was the user's Cheetos addiction. My palmrests took on a very dingy look within a couple of months. I tried every kind of cleaner I could think of and the only thing that worked was a little bit of Ajax or Comet and a moist sponge or papertowel. Gently working in circles, avoiding the keyboard and trackpad areas (that grit would be very bad in there). That did it for me and actually seemed to keep it from happening again as quickly.
From the Book of Jobs: If Steve had meant us to wash our hands, he would have invented the iRinse.
This is what happens when some whorish sorority girl who fake-n-bakes doesn't wash up proper afterwards, and goes straight on to sending semi-nude pictures and flirt-messages to all the horny frat guys she can find on facebook. "Bitch, betta wash that extra fake-tan shit off before gettin' in my white leather Chrysler 300. I don't want you leavin' tracks behind in my ride like you do on your skanky-ass lookin' laptop. ...Bitch."
For what it's worth, this has happened on my gateway notebook as well. It's got a silver finish, and it's not as bad as that pic by any means, but anything you touch your oily human skin to for an extended period will eventually begin to discolor.
Yeah, these look disgusting. I bet this was brought up to Steve during initial design, and he said "Oh, I'm sorry, did my laptop get in the way of your sweat? Do me a favor and lose five pounds immediately or get out of my building right now!"
See, that's why you should always wash your hands after using the restroom.
black Macbooks get super smudgy so aren't much of a solution. just check out the ones that have been pawed at the Apple Store. looks like this might be as big a materials booboo as titanium. it'd be nice if Apple engineers actually ran their materials through some real-world tests once in a while...
Mac users in stunningly-poor-personal-hygene shock! I suppose it's a break from the aloof Mac elitist stereotype, mind. BTW, in my experience a lot of laptop discolouring is the silver finish coming off the plastic, not the user's hands staining the machine. I've got two big plastic-coloured circles on my old laptop where the heels of my hands used to rest. However if this can wash off then it must be some sort of staining.
Cheeto stains!
Hmmm... maybe mr jobby intends for all the mac fans to buy ipod's and macbooks once a year. For those new features, like clean palm rests.
Maybe the user forgot to remove the plastic covering his vents? ;^)
Holy crap there are so many good quotes. I'll highlight a few of my favorites By wohho .... but, Apple design is sent directly from God.... how can anything possibly be wrong with it? By InfoMofo I bet this was brought up to Steve during initial design, and he said "Oh, I'm sorry, did my laptop get in the way of your sweat? Do me a favor and lose five pounds immediately or get out of my building right now!" I love the reference to Zoolander
The key to eternal Mac whiteness is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Sponge. (Check the cleaning products aisle at your local retailer). I used one to clean-up a grungy G3 iBook recently, and it was a strange/almost alien-tech experience. It truly is "magic".
I can vouch. Those sponges are awesome.
Macbooks - not spongeworthy.
Hmmm . . . I'd like to see more photo's, that looks pretty Photoshop-ed if you take a good look.
this makes me happy :)
wow. my compaq presario has one of those too... but it took three years of heavy usage, not three weeks
