Levi's Gets Into iPod Picture

levis jeans.jpg

Yup, even a staid brand like Levi's has decided to partner up with Apple. Announced at MacWorld, the two companies are bringing us Levi's Redwire DLX Jeans, which they claim will integrate iPod plug and play technology. Basically, this means that there will be an iPod docking cradle built into the side pocket—which the company promises will be virtually invisible. Dunno how they plan on pulling that off, but ok (especially if anyone wears their jeans as tight as this guy). Also expect a special 4-way, joystick remote control in the watch pocket and a retractable headphone unit to manage earphone wires (not sure where that will be just yet). No photos of these stunningly high-tech jeans and no price, but they will be available for both men and women sometime this fall.

  • Too bad they're going to probably be a horrible cut and a horrible wash, like stonewashed relaxed fit. I know Gizmodo doesn't often talk fashion, but Levis has totally missed the denim boat. The whole high end denim movement started probably 6 or so years ago, with boutique/japanese denim commanding huge prices. Levis didn't update their product line and are only now working with boutique brands to release limited editions. Not only that, they released an "economy brand" sold at Target and the like. The only thing that is doing is further diluting the brand name and relegating the once all-powerful Levis to something someone from the midwest buys out of a Sears catalog. It's too late, Levis. Too late.

  • woot. [negative] midwest mention. i'm just curious how you wash these things if you don't live in the midwest.

  • Gives a whole new meaing to "Hey, is that an iPod in your pocket or are you jus tglad to see me?!" This will go down in flames just like the Dockers PDA pants!!! Remeber that God-aweful idea? The TV ad had a guy walking through an e-ray machine or something similar....terrible idea.... only occassionaly has fashion and tech mixed in a way that is good (backpacks with iPod access, Ski Jackets too). In the end it is so niche it's a failure from the get go!!

  • It looks like a washable dock connector, which isn't necessarily a new thing. Burton made an iPod dock attachment and a soft-touch arm remote in one of their snowboard jackets. It cost around $900, so the Levis should run at LEAST $198.

  • the difference between your PDA and your iPod pants is the iPod penetration in every age group as well as the leading market share in every age group. the iPod jeans seek to appeal to everyone who owns an ipod which is a 100 fold larger group than the 40 year old CxO (insert your favorite letter for the 'x') who owns a PDA and likes Dockers pants.

  • They should be bright white with a touch wheel around the groin so if you stand with your legs together you look like the shuffle...and then the retractable headset should be behind the zipper so if you progress from wearing something as lame as ipod pants in public to 'using' ipod pants in public you'll be arrested You know...if the American Government taxed ipod acessories they'd be able to rebuild the whitehouse with solid gold bars....or maybe 40gb ipods and it'll be the iwhitehouse *sigh*
