Dual Tuner Series 2 TiVo?

thetivologo.jpgNo, it's not the HD TiVo that we've all been waiting for, but it is a good start. A few shopping sites, such as Amazon have begun listing the TCD649180, a series 2 TiVo with dual tuners, Ethernet and USB ports for home networking and a 180-hour recording capacity. Listed for $349, the newest TiVo revision also lacks a CableCARD slot. No word on the TCD649180's release date; the series 3 TiVo is epected to be relased later in the year.

  • Does anyone still care about Tivo? I've got two silent tivos in the closet with lifetime subscriptions... can't compete with the HD DVR from my cable company.

  • Price looks good.

  • I have yet to find a cable company box that works as nicely as a TiVo... god how I hate the cable PVR box! Whose wise idea was it to put icons instead of text?! Even on an HDTV, sitting a normal distance away it comes out tiny and indistinct, so you have to learn that the "guide" button is 3rd from the left, the "record showings" is 5th, etc. Or if you finally find the main button, to navigate 3 columns of 9 items to find "Record a show" or even "Find a show". If nothing else, TiVo seemed to be the only company to spend time working the UI so the functionality is there. Or maybe the true goal is to make a box that people can't use so they'll pay for programming they can't figure out how to watch?
