Despite all the talk of missing ship dates and possible delays, the Microsoft Vista team has gotten their OS gold. *clap clap* Good for you guys.
Windows chief Jim Allchin posted a cryptic message this morning to his blog that read, "It's time," signifying either Windows has gone gold or he was about to be party to only the 2nd male birth in the history of humanity (the first re-won his Governorship last night).
Although consumers won't be able to get their hands on the new OS until January 30, 2007 (just confirmed by Microsoft), corporate customers and internet pirates will be sitting pretty long before then.

Uughhhh...that blog is fugly!! Did they rip off MySpace?!?
what does it mean "gone gold"? Is that another way of saying it's been released to manufacturers? Please excuse my ignorance.
gold is the final version of the software that gets mass produced... its a software term like "alpha" or "beta" versions... this is just the "gold" version
wikipedia to the rescue

Yeah basically the same meaning, but that meaning has changed over the last few years.
"gone gold"/"release to manufacturing" used to mean it's qualified for release to manufacturing and the code is complete and quality is good enough to sell. Nowadays with broadband patches and autoupdaters it means "It will install and we think we can complete the code before it hits the store shelves."
If i see a torrent, i'll probably grab it, but not as my primary OS.
That was quite the odd Arnold reference. Props for subtlety. I'm in the middle of patting myself on the back for getting it.
I am using RC2 as my primary OS, and it is absolutely great.
Someone want to tell me the best place to find the torrent for this, lol.
I'd wait a week or so...(it should be leaked by then)
Any old dolt can post a leaked rip of the DVD, but it'll take a bit for all of the verification systems to be buggared with so that it will be properly usable by those who...decline to pay for it.
Yup - 5 years in the making...maybe they'll get the Roling Stones to help them launch this piece of shit operating system again....after all - they're about as cool and relevant as Vista.
Wouldn't that be third? If I recall, the Cosby Show jumped the shark by doing a male pregnancy episode.
I must have missed that Cosby episode but if they really did that then I would definitely say they jumped the shark right then and there!
