Palm Treo 800p Confirmed?

palm_logo_200.jpgIt seems as though Palm has decided to fly by upgrading the current 700 series and going straight into an 800 series model. The Palm Treo 800p features 128MB RAM, an enhanced 320 x 320 screen, a Wi-Fi option, SD card, BT 2, EVDO, a 3.2 megapixel camera, and will use the same accessories as the Treo 650. The 800p also shows off its thinner and smaller design, along with a sleek and cool case. The new Palm is rumored to connect to wireless Wi-Fi connections and to EVDO "effortlessly", allowing the user to browse the Internet faster. The new 320 x 320 screen is said to be sharper, brighter, and less awkward and cramped than its 650 predecessor. Estimated price is said to be less than $600 (very exciting). March 15 is the rumored date for its release, so mark your calendars if you're interested in this baby. All of this is coming from a forum junkie over at Treocentral, so could be true, could be a load of crap.

  • I'm pretty sure if it's a Treo it IS a load of crap.

  • treocentral has been a great source of info, but also a great source of rumors. is there going to be an improved treo at some point? of course! will there be tons of rumors for months and months before it comes out? absolutely! anyway, i love my treo 650, as i loved my treo 300 before it. if they make one that's truly better, i'm sure i will like it too. but i'm not falling in to that trap of pre-release salivation for months on end.

  • So the last two TREOs have been for the CDMA market. What the good golly CHRIST. Im not into it personally, but, I like to see some cool pull over in the wold of GSM.

  • I am excited to see the 800 on its way. Rumors may sometimes be premature but it nice to see the good stuff just keeps on coming. Because I am not an FBI agent or other special government employee the Treo may be the "only" thing happening if they finally pluck the Blackberry off of the money tree.

  • For as old as it is, the Treo 650 is still the best damn device out there. It blends functionality with usability. Other gadgets have more features but at huge usability disadvantages or other limitations such as size or battery. The Treo 700 didn't cut it. Sure, it is fine for people who HAVE to have Windows, but it isn't nearly as usable overall and the low-resolution screen is downright dumb. If the 800 can bring the Treo more into line with current tech and still maintain that magic blend of usability and functionality, I'll be there.

  • All I want is this one not to use Windozzz Mobile. Part of the reason people get a Palm Treo is the great Palm OS interface.

  • I'm guessing that is why they are making the jump from 700 to 800 because the 800 OS will be Palm. I'm sure any further upgrades to the Windows Based system will stay in the 7** world.

  • I have always thought that Palm made great smartphone hardware, but when are they going to lose the stub antenna?! They drive me nuts and I know I'm not alone.

  • Uh, the treocentral thread you linked to now has at the top: "Warning to all readers: Slinky the author of this thread has admitted to lying about information in this thread. The rumors of a Treo 800p are false and competely fake. As a result, all readers should be warned to be extremely skeptical of any infomation posted in this thread." I'd love a Palm clamshell phone successor to my Samsung sph-i500.

  • skierpage -- The above comment about the "admission" was just removed after being added by the administrators at TreoCentral. I made the "800p joke" which was pretty obvious to anyone with a level head and who read the original post instead of the highly agreessive specs listed. The post was in response to the outrageous list of tales crafted at TreoCentral. When I returned hours later I couldn't believe that several people pumped up the hype button tenfold and Palm and Sprint received numerous calls. The 700p might actually be a phone that Sprint may have let slip as a result of the rumor. Nobody knows but do note that the 700p was "found" in a "Craigs List ad" and has other questions about the "tale." As always, it is important to read the source. Second hand paraphrasing on the Internet can be of limited value!

  • Only 128mb of ram means it will choke on the internet and be completely useless for browsing just like my 700 series. Memory is so cheap they could easily put a couple gig in these things for pennies and they would be functional devices. I don't understand why they would be introducing new products with only 128 meg.
