As the hypefest running up to the May 31 release of the Motorola Q continues, there was a reviewer's event yesterday where members of the press corps were allowed to paw and fondle the lusted-after smartphone. Here's a shot from the unboxing event, where the diminutive Q looks smaller in the hand than we thought.
Verizon Wireless snagged an exclusive on the Motorola Q, but that probably won't last for long. As we reported earlier this week, the highly-anticipated smartphone will be available directly through the Verizon Wireless website next Wednesday and in stores sometime next month at a price of $199 after an instant $100 rebate.
Motorola Q is Here! [Mobility Today]

Any word or news on what else is in the box? Obviously the "Q" and the manual, but what else?
For those not ready to sign up for a new plan, anyone care to hazard a guess on the price?
The blue M logo on top is likely just protective plastic that can be peeled off, as it was on my RAZR, revealing a silver M logo.
im actually interested in that as well, since I already have a 2 year plan but would like to upgrade the plan and the phone.
I've heard $419 for the phone without a plan. That's $200 cheaper than either Treo 700 at this point.
Heh heh... I had one in my hand today as well. I stepped into a Verizon store and mentioned I was interested in picking up a Q next week, but first had some questions about plan switching and such. The salesperson said in a hushed voice, "Come over here for a second". He went in the back room and returned with a display model Q for me to check out! It really was a lot smaller, thinner, and lighter in hand than I had been expecting. I think the keypad has a bit wider spacing than the Treo (which is a major selling point for me and my ogre fingers). The display seemed EXTRA clean and clear. All that said, there was something about it that felt almost "toy-like". Like it was a bit too "plasticy" and too light or something... Felt like it could be easily broken. Definitely a case and front-pocketer. One thing the salesperson (who's already using a Q, lucky bastard) said is a nice touch is that taking a call while in the midst of Windows work (documents/email/etc.) doesn't throw anything off, and that you can quickly and easily pick up where you left off (which sounds good to me). All-in-all, I can't wait for next week's release.
Oh, and also... See that portion with the "talk/home/clear/power" items on it? I didn't realize it before, but it's all one single sheet of plastic with graphics printed on it. It was a little weird, as there's no real individual button for any of those items, rather you kind of "press through" the whole piece. Not that big a deal really... just something that struck me as a bit "different".
...Sorry, but the form beats the Treo hands down. Function? I'ma find out.
