I'm one of those crazy gadget freaks that actually checks out the Craigslist electronics listings every other day. Because you never know when you can get a great deal on a perfectly good device that's maybe just a few months old (for example, the week the iPod nano was released, iPod minis were being sold left and right at incredibly affordable prices). Every once in awhile you'll also get some random rumors on gadgets or crazy kooks ranting about crap. It's good stuff.
Anyway, apparently there have been some rumors going around that T-Mobile could be releasing the Sidekick 3 before Christmas this year. Some people are skeptical about this, and have gone ahead and tried to debunk that rumor, saying that the rumor is probably referring to T-Mobile Europe's MDA IV, and not the Sidekick. Well, apparently someone at T-Mobile got super-duper upset about this, and posted this wonderfully explosive rant on Craigslist (Get the full-on rampage after the jump):
I WORK FOR T-MOBILE, AND I AIN'T STUPID!! I DON'T CONFUSE OTHER NOKIAS, SEIMENS, OR ANY OTHER LOOKING PDA'S AND SIDEKICK LOOKALIKE DEVICES. GO AHEAD AND WRITE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR. BUT LEAVE MY DAM AD ALONE BECAUSE I WORK FOR T-MOBILE AND WE GOT THE OFFICAL WORD THAT THE SIDEKICK III IS COMING OUT BEFORE X-MAS. WE DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH THE NEW SIDEKICK WILL BE OR HOW IT LOOKS LIKE, BUT IT IS COMING OUT. OKAY. Well okay then, Mr. T-Mobile Worker! We believe you! Really! So much so, we've posted your rum.. er.. I mean, FACTUAL INFO, on this site! Besides, you know we're the kind to believe anything. Or post anything, as is evident with this entry.
RE:SIDEKICK III NOT A RUMOR [Craigslist]

There has been no information I can see about a Sidekick/hiptop III release, unlike with the II before its introduction, but I could imagine a surprise product introduction to get the market flowing strong. The Sidekick/hiptop II is a year old now and for the past three years there have been introductions in the fall for updated products, so I can imagine that they might want to keep that schedule up. The current unit is pretty unique, but it does lack Bluetooth and a way to use the device modem for data on a connected computer that I'd like to see.
A friend of mine is in constant and close communication with Danger (even under NDAs etc). He's told me there will be no new hardware launches for a while. Danger did make mention of having more than one device on the market by the end of 2005 earlier in the year, but they haven't hit a target ship date yet, so there's nothing to make me think they'll hit that broad goal either. With regards to having the device act as a modem, I think there would have to be a significantly different pricing plan for a phone with this option considering the role the Danger backend servers play in it's communication with the net. Also, developers are forced to streamline their apps' network usage a ton before an application is released. Becase of that, the chance of them giving somebody an open connection to the net 24/7 for the same price is extremely small.
I love my Sidekick 2 but it desperately needs some updates made to it such as Bluetooth, Javascript abilities, and Flash Mobile. I know that Bluetooth is an improbability on the Sidekick 2, but the Javascript, and Flash Mobile would be very nice to have.
Scratch what I said above about him knowing about the lack of a hardware launch. He was just basing that on the lack of an FCC release of the device and the fact that danger let people check out the SK2 at tradeshows 9 months prior to its release.
I spoke to a T-Mobile guy(there's a T-mobile stand there) at The Grove(last Saturday) in LA and he told me to expect the Sidekick 3 before Christmas. He told me this in person without prompting or coaxing at all. So I believe this is a very true and real story.
