Here are some hot new phones fresh off the streets of Pemba, Mozambique. Hopefully we don't get anyone sued for use of the "Scony" branding.
With no interior electronics, the carver could have easily created a clamshell or ultra thin candybar. What do we get instead? A monstrous Zack Morris phone...in magenta.

Maybe the MIT team building the sub-$100 laptop should turn to this guy to help them out. Seems like he already figured out how to make a cell phone for the developing world fo less than $5. Think how cheap his laptops will be.
I like em. Looks like something the professor on Gilligan's Island woulda made.
Homer: Pfft. I know a genuine Panaphonics when I see it. And look, there's Magnetbox and Sorny.
how do you even fake this being a real phone? how bad are some of these countries? and who's going to pay all of the psychologist bills when these people start hearing voices on the other end these damn things? I mean really! God! Idiot! like the poor didn't already have enough problems......
GFX! Stop quoting me! :)
Okay, I know who Zack Morris is, but I don't understand the connetion.
Zack Morris for the most part of the earlier episodes used those huge brick cellulars from back in the day.
seriously, how could any fall for it? and whod be dumb enough to try faking them?
he means this HOMER

Homer: I am so smart, I am so smart, I am so smart, I am so smart, S-M-R-T... I mean S-M-A-R-T.
a) I don't think anyone is trying to pass them off as real phones. If you've ever been a tacky tourist you will know that the streets are full of crafts for you to buy as souvenirs.
b) Zach M famously had one of the first handportable cell phones and would use it during class.
Stop being stupid, they're obviously toys for kids. Will you Americans quit assuming the rest of the world is mentally retarded?
I'm not so sure. And you'd have to be at least a little retarded to get 'Sony' wrong.
And what is this 'rest of the world' you speak of?
The long arm of the law for Sony is at play here. Toy carvers in Africa can't even use "Sony", resorting to Scony. Ain't the same with Nokia and Philips. :)
