Official Apple Document Refers To "Touch-Screen" iPod

German spies combing through Apple's developer support documents have made an interesting little discovery: an official mention of a touch-screen iPod! OMG! Yup, the developer docs mention "touch-screen" models. I've gotta tell you, there's nothing better than reading technical manuals looking for rumors to spread.

Granted, a super secret Apple higher-up already told us that a touch-screen iPod was to be released in November of this year, so we're not all that surprised. (Though the German article claims that no new iPods will be released until 2007.) The sooner they release it, the sooner we can all move on with our lives, such as they are.

  • It's a typo. They meant to refer to "touch-wheel" or "scroll-wheel" models. Substitute that into the paragrpah, and the sentence actually makes sense.

  • Hey, don't blow past the first part of that document too quickly. It appears that those touch screen iPods will have customizable menus and such too.

Perhaps the Zune is putting some pressure on the iPod after all.

Ward, I'm sorry but it refers to 5th gen and then to touch-screen iPods. Twice. I'm thinking that isn't a typo.

  • I agree w/ Ward - its referring to features that are supposedly used in current iPods

    What say the Gizmodo gods?

  • Do you really think, that 5 years of world beating product development with iPod, that Apple are just going to roll over when the Zune arrives?

Come on people - they are going to release a Zune kiler, with hyperspacial storage, built-in Starbucks, wireless 9.1 surround sound,

    oh, and a touch screen

  • Apple's changed it, the PDF now reads:

"Linking to photos and videos is supported only for 5th generation iPods running iPod Software version 1.2 or later. All other Notes feature capabilities described in this document are supported for iPod models beginning with third-generation iPod (dock connector) models with touch wheel."

  • Damn. Damn you Nightspark. The dream was so pleasant why did you wake me?

  • ooh it's a conspiracy... haha yah they changed it, and "touch-screen" made no sense the way it was used there. It's talking about what sounds like a power point feature being used on the iPod to guide people through a tutorial, and how pictures and video would only be supported by 5th gen iPods, all others beginning with the touch-WHEEL (not screen) third generation iPod's would support the Notes feature but no video or pictures... which makes sense... if touch-screen would used in that context it would mean that touch-screen iPods don't support video or picture... yah that'd make sense.
