XCM XFPS Xbox 360 Keyboard/Mouse Adapter Available Now

If you hate using the Xbox 360's dual joystick controllers to play Gears of War, now's your chance to pick up the XCM XFPS keyboard and mouse adapter for the 360. Not only does it allow you to use a PS/2 or USB keyboard and mouse, you can also hook up a PS2 light gun, a PS2 guitar, or a PS2 dancing mat, none of which are really supported on the Xbox 360 gamewise.

However, you can hook up a PS2 Dualshock or a PS2 Racing Wheel, which should work fairly well on a 360. The bad news is that the adapter costs $79, but if you're a traditional PC gamer that's dying to get back your keyboard and mouse, it may be worth it.

Gimme a mouse/KB on my disused PS2 and I'll jam on some Medal of Honor, but I'm useless with a controller, sorry.

Make one for the PS2 and I'm in.

  • i was under th impression that the 360 can use mice and controllers already as long as they are usb. is that true?

  • I wonder if a bluetooth keyboard and mouse will work with it? The wireless controller for the 360 is quite nice but fumbling around with the display keyboard sucks. I'd be a buyer at 79 smackers only if it's compatible with bluetooth.

Ryanraven: Not for gaming, only for typing messages and whenever there's text entry in a game.

IceDreamer: A bluetooth keyboard does work with it, provided you stick the dongle into one of the USB ports.

  • This is retarded and I hope they ban this with an update, costing cheap PC gamers $80 down the drain in the process. It's a console, not an excuse to "pwn" noobz with point/click/kill headshots in floaty console shooters like halo.
I can click on those "win an ipod" banners too, it's not hard. Grow some nads and play fair or go buy a $700 graphics card for your PC and get "pwnd" yourself. low-lifes.

  • I understand that people love the keyboard / mouse option, but, that's NOT on option on the 360. This is a 3rd party cheat essentially. I can imagine that I'm not going to be playing Halo 3 online too much once this starts getting into the hands of the cross-map spawn camp snipers.

  • Drugs for Sale: Plz get a life.

  • I agree with what Drugs for Sale said.. basically. Adding this to the mix would give the keyboard/mouse users an unfair accuracy advantage over the regular controller users. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather use a keyboard & mouse myself.. but I'd much rather have a fair game.

  • Oh come on you xbox 360 players, I keep hearing that you guys will be able to pwn the PC players in Huxley, so why not other games as well? If you can't handle to play against someone who legaly, and fairly buys a keyboard and mouse to play with the 360, then maybe you should gain some skills, lol. Everyone suspected that the 360 would be able to use keyboards and mouses even without a 80 adapter, so you should have been ready for this. Learn to adapt, or get out of the gene pool.

  • Either way it takes practice to get good at a game. Using either Joysticks or keyboard/mouse. This just makes it easier for PC players to jump right in without following the whole learning curve of gaming all over again. Lets not be hipacritical here. They have adapters to use the controllers on the PC too, and I doubt it's because console gamers want to spend extra money to be gluttons for punishment rather then "easily" using the mouse and keyboard. It's just because they already have experience.

  • If this is allowed and works correctly, this is going to be a huge advantage for those who purchase this. The accuracy you'll gain with the mouse/keyboard will never be matched with a controller. This is sure going to screw with FPS games.

This is unless a forced "floatiness" is added to the this combo, even then it'll still be superior to using a controller.

Personally, I'd rather this not work and have everyone have to use the same hardware. Make it an even playing field.

  • This is going to be a lame add on if it works like on a computer. The accuracy advantage given to those using a keyboard/mouse combo will be akin to using hacks.

The playing field should be even.

This would make FPSs a pain for anyone who doesn't use this combo, making the controllers nearly useless.

Wow seething hatred towards a control method.
    That's a new one on me I guess. (???)

I guess if you're gonna seethe, it should be about the important stuff like how everybody else's controls are arrayed.

    Good luck with that.

  • About time - should have been part of the original package - an XBOX is a PC under the hood anyway.

Cheating? Hey, I've spent way too much time perfecting FPS reflexes on a keyboard and mouse to abandon that skill to a stupid game pad - little joysticks suck for precision (big ones on the other hand are great - wouldn't fly a tie fighter without one).

I don't like the $80 price tag (less on the street, but still a bit pricey), but this is the way to go for FPS on the 360. The difference between Far Cry on the PC and on the 360 is night and day for me.

  • P.S. too late for me to put on my Christmas list - rats.

  • Yeah, DeadPlsma is another "xbox fanboy" a-hole. From that pos crap hole "jerkstiq".

Saying "I hope they ban this with an update" just cracks me up. What a bunch of wussies.

I love hearing these Halo freaks whine about a keyboard and mouse adapter making the game unfair. These are the same f-holes that laugh at PC gamers saying they would "pwn" PC gamers even with a keyboard and mouse.

Fact is, this adapter wont make a difference because the game isn't designed for a KB/mouse and I doubt it would make a difference.

Either way this rampant fanboy BS is gay.

And Going from blog to blog making the same comment is like intentionally spreading AIDS so STFU.

  • The next logical step for these consoles is to put a fully-functional web browser on them so you can surf on your HDTV in the living room, rather than having to get up and go to the computer to look at a web page. The Wii and PS3 have browsers already, and the PS3 already has M/K support, but only to a limited extent in the gui.

It's surprising that you never hear anybody complain about MS selling you a racing wheel for $150. That's as big of an advantage over the controller for racing games as M/K would be for FPS games. But I guess since MS supports it and collects their money, nobody cares eh? Sounds like a double standard to me.

Given the level of competition between MS and Sony, it's just a matter of time before one of them realizes the increased appeal of M/K control for their FPS games. And once one of them does it, the other will follow right after. And then the kiddies will whine, "it's unfair!" and the like (as is seen in this thread). So fine, detect M/K users and only let them play against other M/K users if you want. However you want to try to keep the playing field fair, let's do that. But let's not set aside a clearly superior control setup just because it wouldn't be fair to the kids who can afford a $600 PS3 but not spend $60 for a decent M/K setup.

  • If this works with games, then MS need to, and probably will, do something to nix it. You can't have keyb/mouse and joypad controls in a console game; it gives the mouse user a massive advantage. The delineation must be enforced or else it's equivalent to cheating. Not to mention this thing has a turbofire mode, which speaks for itself.

Level playing field, folks. Racing go-karts is tremendous fun until you allow a competitor with a ferrari in. Sailing competitions, great, skilful; don't introduce speedboats. They're different things with their own arena.

  • This is a bit confusing. It makes reference to "PS/2" keyboard and mouse, as in "Personal System / 2". I can only assume the references to "PS2 controller" are for "PlayStation 2", right? Or is this only referring to PC peripherals? Anybody want to try to clear that up?

I took a look at the product page, and it's unclear on this as well.

  • Anyone who prefers a k/m combo needs to stick to PC gaming. Simple as that. That's what PC gaming is about, customizing your box, and gaming exactly the way you want to.

Console gaming on the other hand is about consistency. Every player having basically the same equipment makes for a more even playing field. If you can't play on an even field, go back to your PC where uneven fields are accepted.

  • All this talk about "even playing fields" is hilarious. MS will sell you a $150 racing wheel for driving games (giving you a distinct advantage) but I don't hear the uproar about that. Double standard? Yeah, pretty much. Try to sell that even-playing-field concept to the kid playing on a 19-inch stardard-def TV while you're kicking his ass on mom&dad's 50-inch Plasma, I'm sure he'll agree with you that it's a fair fight.

The logical progression for consoles is to add a web browser (PS3 and Wii have them already) and make them a fully functional web/e-mail/video tool for your HDTV. M+K is essential for web browsing and e-mail, so why not support it in your FPS games as well?

The easiest fix to the disparity between the two control methods (and I don't see anybody arguing here that the controller is not inferior to M+K) is to have the console detect which control method you're using, and only allow you to play with other people using the same control method. Problem solved, whiners placated, thank you come again.

Full M+K support on consoles isn't a question of if, but when. And the "when" is as soon as one of the two sees it as a competitive advantage and adds it, then the other one will follow suit very quickly. You guys are lucky that PS3 M+K support sucks so bad out of the box, but let's wait until UT2K7 comes out and see what everybody thinks.

I feel very little pity for a kid who can afford a $600 PS3 but doesn't have $60 for a decent M+K setup and the patience to learn how to use it.

  • Are you saying people don't cheat in Halo?

  • Absolutely people cheat in Halo. Of course the vast majority of hackers and modders originated in the PC gaming world and then migrated to consoles. Also, your comments earlier about someone being gay and akin to spreading AID's was totally out of line and inappropriate.

  • It was good reading though.

Blaming the PC gaming world for Halo cheating?

The VAST majority of XBOX Halo players never played a PC based FPS before getting on HALO.

    The funny part is this.

Halo Gamers KNOW that keyboard/mouse control is much more realistic. You can move and shoot much closer to real time speeds. It is unrealistic to use a joystick to direct a weapon. Period.

That is why PC gamers don't care about halo. We have had HL2 and FEAR and UT and they are all better than the ONE game that the XBOX has HALO2 for the FPS crowd on the consoles. ONE GAME.

Why get on HALO2 and listen to all those 13 year old twits talking crap and playing their stereos into the mic and screaming PWND!PWND!PWND!PWND!PWND!PWND!PWND!PWND! Losers.

  • To whomever: If you and I are in a racing game on XBox Live, and you're using the standard controller and I'm using my racing wheel, am I cheating?

  • meh, real guns FTW, most realistic aiming

  • So let me get this straight.. anyone with a Wheel playing 'Carbon' or any racing game on the 360 is a fuckin pussy ass mo fo and a Cheat.
I for one I am newbie to consoles and I see it in a different way...Is may fuckin rig so if I want to buy a Mo fucking KB & mouse I will do so...AND I sincerely hope to find you crying bitches online and put a bullet between your eye balls and laugh my ass off! Specially any pussy ass that wants Microsoft to limit this with a fix..They cant limit what I can buy, use or not use with my shit. On the contrary Microsoft is smiling all the way to bank becuse their system is gaining more acceptance and going across other section of the gaming market...but you morons would not understand the economics part of it. All you care is about your stats and playing fair. STOP your God Damm crying already... So to all of you bitches.. FU in UR Arse.

And those using joysticks for flying simulators on PCs or Wheels for car racing games on consoles you should be ashamed....

bottom line is ..Use the controller U want and dont listen to these freaks that are just scared of people like me invading "their realm" cuz their fucking parents could not afford a gaming PC instead settled for a console for their little ones. Tell your parents to quit having babies and maybe some day Santa will bring you a gaming PC. Me, I can afford both the PC and Consoles....AND I can afford this adapter ....Bitches!!!!

    Kill you all later!!!!!

  • wow!

  • OK

  • I wpould like to comment on all the devoted console FPS players who have posted comment's above. As a gamer you should have a good understanding of what it would mean to have a preferred control method. I have friends who argue that controllers are the way FPS' are meant to be played. If so, you shouldn't have a problem playing against a player using a keyboard.

I would say that the fact that you are playing against someone with your preffered controller option, they should be aloud to play against you with theirs. And if you are of the impression that M/K are superior to the controller, then get the adapter yourself and stop whining.

For my part, this product saved console games for me on the 360. And I don't care what people think as long as I feel I'm playing to my best ability.

  • The Xbox360 should have worked with mouse and keyboard out of the box. They would probably have sold alot more consoles to PC gamers like myself who would have bought one except I hate gamepads/thumb controls.

As someone else pointed out the xbox and xbox360 ARE PC's, in a console package. I would venture that M$ didn't include this functionality directly because they feared it might cut into "new controller" sales or some shit. How much money do you think they make on these controllers anyway? Probably fairly high margin in comparison to loosing money on the console itself. Controller pads are one of the accessories where they can make 400% profit. If you could re-use you PS2, Xbox(original), NES (lol), etc. controllers on some new console, that new console manufacturer KNOWS they would loose money on controller sales. So. what happens? Every damn new console (just about) in history has had DIFFERENT frickin connectors that any other console before it.

If you think this is a cheat, so is any other adapter to let you use ps2 controllers on PS3's, or gamecube wireless controllers on an xbox1, etc. because you like those controllers better.

I already have a smart joyfrag for the xbox. I bought it for Halo2 (played Halo1 on pc) and I played the whole game using my mouse/keyboard. Without that adapter I never would have purchased the xbox or halo2.

Microsoft. wise up. It's a PC, give us some options on controller methods.

If it's a racing game, I want to use a wheel.

If it's a flying game the controller pads are ok, but an actual joystick is better.

If it's a fighting type game (think soul calibur) then the controller pad is perfect.

If it's an FPS game, GIVE ME KEYBOARD and MOUSE.

If it's dance dance revolution, give me dance floor mats.

If it's duck hunt, give me the little light gun :)

(essentially) forcing game developers to write console games to always use a controller pad has probably limited creativity some....

    My $4.99 worth

  • For those that call m/k users in Halo 2 are cheaters and not playing fair, I have a question. Playing Halo 2 starts off with you facing a Covenant breach and you have your assault rifle and your enemies come charging in and you have your little XBox 360 controller and have to aim. Oops, too far up, need to aim down.. wait, too far, up again... wait.. too high again, move.. now I need to aim all over.. left.. too far.. ((Etc)) This is not realistic in any way to firing a real gun in real time. If you use a controller and it takes you 20 minutes to get your targeting reticle on the enemy, all because your controller sucks at FPS games, then how is that *fair*?

M/K controllers are more accurate, yes, which is a lot more realistic than not being able to hit a creature standing 5 feet in front of you and getting your head blown off all because you couldn't get the target on the spot as fast as a M/K. I can be blind and deaf and still manage to empty an assault rifle into an enemy 20 feet away in a few seconds, so using a standard gaming controller and having to constantly adjust and fine tune my aiming and constantly correcting my targeting HUD in combat before I can even get a simple shot off is in no way *fair* or near-realistic.

And since when is *better* and *more accurate* not fair? If we find a superior way of doing something, we should ignore it? It isn't cheating, it is called adaptation and progress. If you can't afford to buy something that improves your game or just don't like PC gamers, that is your problem, not theirs and it does not make any of them cheaters or playing unfair.

Why not complain about using the wireless controllers vs. the wired controllers? Same controller, but wireless controller players have an *unfair advantage* because they can afford to find a more comfortable and advantageous place in their home from which to play instead of a few feet from the console?

Is it cheating that some people don't have the same natural talent with games as others? I don't see a difference. If your controller is so great, and you are so great at using it, then you should have no trouble beating a M/K user.

If you set up your controller buttons in any configuration other than the default, are you a cheater because that is not what the console's configuration is supposed to be, right out of the box?

If you people crying about an even playing field truly believe that using a better controller is unfair, then you should also make sure that every gamer not only has to use the same controller as you, but also the same TV or monitor, the same sound system, the same size room to play in for the same quality of sound, the same lighting conditions, the same furniture to sit on, and the same temperature in the room everyone plays in. All of these things are also factors in playing a game well or not.

[Player 1] Plays in a cushy recliner with a wireless controller in a cool room with no backlight glare on the screen, playing on a 80'' plasma HDTV with the sound being pumped through a high end stereo surround sound home theater system.
[Player 2] Plays in his small, cramped bedroom on a 12'' fuzzy TV with a mono TV speaker in a stuffy ventilated room while sitting cross legged on the floor with his wired controller, while sunlight glares off the screen because they cannot put the TV where they want.

Gee, which is going to play better if both have the same skills? Environment is as important as the tools you use to play the game and if you want to insult M/K users because they found a better and easier way to control the FPS game, then you better be a truly fair player and make sure that *no one* has any form of any advantage in any way before you start calling people cheaters and hackers.

Point is, you people that want to call everyone else cheaters all because they found a controller that is better in all ways for *this particular game*... grow up. Either get the same M/K controller or don't play the game any more, easy and simple as that. You will always find *some* way to accuse everyone that is better than you in the game of cheating and how unfair everything is, until *you* are the one that wins, then everything is alright and you have no qualms. M/K is not a cheat, not a hack, just a different way of interacting with the game.

  • SARDONICBASTARD: PS/2 is the old format that mouse/keyboards came in(before usb), its the circular green and purple ports on the back of your computer, so basically it will support every mouse/keyboard you can throw at it

it also has a plug for playstation 2 controllers so it supports the dualshock controllers aswell

  • I guess I already "cheat" at Forza2, PGR4, Dirt, etc because I use a Force Feedback racing wheel, rather than a gamepad.

If I'm already labeled as a cheater because I use a controller other than you do, I might as well go ahead and use what is comfortable to me.

BTW. My XFPS 3.0 Sniper arrived today. :)

  • I had to sign up just to say some things about some of these people here.

How is this making the playing field unbalanced? This isn't illegal to purchase, so if it's not your cup of tea, then don't use it. But, some people prefer to play with a M/K, and if that gets them on to play some games, then so be it. If you think people who own it have a much better advantage, then suck it up and buy one. Yelling at people on a forum isn't going to do a damn thing.
