”OQO Running OS X Leopard: The Smallest Mac in the World?
Forget the Psystar business—this Hackintosh is much more interesting. A member of the OQOTalk forum has demonstrated his OQO running a hacked version of Leopard. It takes over two minutes to load but it looks like it's all there, including such goodies as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, power management and sound. Check out the video to see a (blurry) demo of it in action from the dual-boot startup, including showing coverflow working in Finder and a Dashboard launch.

OQO Updates E2 UMPC; Now Has Embedded HSDPA
We attended OQO's launch party on Monday evening, during which they showed off their updated e2 UMPC with embedded HSDPA. Unfortunately, the revised e2 will only be made available to European and Asian markets. However, do not feel out of love, my US inhabiting buddies: More »

OQO to Launch "Something New" on December 3
We just got a mysterious invite to a party in swinging London: an "exclusive pre-launch unveiling" of a "significant Anytime/Anywhere Computing" product. God only knows what it could be. The pic above, which came in the e-mail, depicts the popular OQO model 02 UMPC—called E2 in Europe because of the O2 cellular carrier. We're told this is not just an update to the 02, but "something new." What do you suppose it could be? [OQO]

OQO Model 02 Gets Spec Bump, Price Dump
OQO's updated the specs for their model 02 line pretty much all around. The fastest available processor now runs at 1.6Ghz; hard drives go up to 120GB, plus they've added the option for a flash-based 32GB solid state drive; and WWAN's been upgraded to 1.4 Mbps EV-DO Rev. A. Finally, the price for the entry level model's been cut by $200 to $1299. Not a bad little announcement. Still too rich for my blood though. [OQO] More »

Linux-based UMPC Will Come with GPS and HSDPA
Internet devices are popping up all over the place nowadays, and the latest comes from the folks at EB. It reminds us of the Amtek a little bit...and the OQO2 a lot...but this one will pack Mobile WiMax, HSDPA and built-in GPS. On top of that it'll have a decent-sized 4.8-inch screen. It'll run Intel's new Menlow platform, which promises better battery life than current UMPCs. No word on availability, but this one's got us foaming at the mouth. More »

How to Replace Your OQO Model 02's EVDO with HSDPA
There's no doubt this hack will terminate your warranty, but if you wanna replace your OQO Model 02's built-in EVDO card with an existing HSDPA card, read on. It'll take some disassembling and a little soldering, but it's possible. All you have to do is pop out the Novatel EV620 EVDI mini PCIe card and slide in your Novatel EU870D/EU860D HSDPA mini PCIe card. And if you're intrepid enough, you can even replace the Toshiba HDD for a Sandisk SSD. Check out the link to see how the former is done. More »

OQO Starts Shipping its Lust-worthy Model 02
If our OQO picture gallery left you craving for more, you'll be happy to know the Model 02 is officially shipping to customers and retailers today. For those of you not in the know, the OQO Model 02 is one of the slickest UMPCs out there, complete with a slide-in keyboard, integrated WWAN (optional), and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth. Base price starts at $1,499. Sure, you can get a cheapo laptop for that, but for touch and go e-mail, you can't get any more ultraportable than the Model 02. Jory Bell, OQO's CEO and former Apple designer, has a sense of humor. When the OQO2's motion sensor detects a drop, it not only parks the drive heads like so many other laptops today, but its power switch glows deep red, and its speakers emit a shrill cry more appropriate for Texas Chainsaw Massacre than Vista. Let's hope the shipping OQOs allow users to tweak the sound. I'd select Homer's "Doh!" More »OQO2 Vs. Flipstart: Live MiniPC Sizemodo and Grope
You've seen both the OQO2 and the Flipstart, but when I loosed both of these little palm-top computers in the same room, it was a moment reminiscent of fighting cocks entering the ring, Superman facing Lex, Hiro meeting Sylar, Ken giving Ryu the Shuryuken...you get the idea. More »

OQO vs Flipstart: The New Apple vs PC?
Still deciding which UMPC deserves a spot in your backpack? Maybe this will help make your mind. The folks at Digital Trends point out that while both the OQO Model 02 and the Flipstart PC are Windows machines, OQO was started by ex-Apple employees (the same ones responsible for the Titanium) whereas Flipstart was started by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. Whether or not that's apparent in the design is up for grabs, although I do think the OQO looks a little nicer. Personally I think they're both too expensive, but if I had to pick one I'd side with the OQO cause the keyboard looks a little easier to use. What about you guys? More »

First Impression of Inowell's UREN V1 UMPC
We were pretty impressed the first time we saw Innowell's in-car UMPC (unfortunately named the UREN), but after getting a bit of hands-on time with it last week, the infatuation is slowly waning. First of all, it's nowhere near as sexy as OQO's Model 02, despite it having a larger 7-inch touch screen. Also, the UREN feels downright cheap when holding it, unlike the Model 02 which is the kind of gadget you don't want to put down once you pick it up. Both UMPCs have built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but only the 02 has integrated EV-DO. Ultimately, however, it's the UREN's 1.5-hour battery life (half that of the Model 02) that turned us off. More »

Oqo Model 02: Giving Other UMPCs a Run for Their Money
The Skinny It's being touted as the world's smallest Vista-capable PC and from what we saw at ShowStoppers this evening, we have to agree. This sexy little siren weighs exactly one pound yet manages to squeeze in an impressive amount of processing power. Plus, it's got built-in mobile broadband. There's even a dock that integrates an external optical drive. More »

OQO 02 UMPC In the Works, Sez FCC
It's time to ditch that OQO 01+ UMPC because the OQO 02 is on the way, according to some FCC documents. The OQO 01+ has been lingering around the UMPC market for well over a year without making much of an impact, but it has always been a favorite device of this Gizmodoite. Not too much is known about this upgraded model in the works:All we can tell you is that it passed on the 5GHz band (which would imply 802.11a), as well as on two frequencies in 2.4GHz, implying 802.11b/g and Bluetooth — unfortunately, nothing there listed for cellular frequencies (which mean that might be left to a Model 02+ or some such thing).Hrm, how dull.
