If Microsoft calls this the Ultimate Keyboard, does it mean they're getting out of the keyboard business after this? Or are future keyboards going to be named the Good But Not Quite The Best Keyboard or The Penultimate Keyboard?
Goofy names aside, this keyboard really does look pretty swanky. There's the matted black finish, wireless-ness, comfort-style split keys, backlight, rechargeability, proximity sensing for auto-lighting as a user approaches, and Bluetooth support. The release date is sometime late this year, and we can't wait. We're suckers for a sweet keyboard design.

HOLY CRAP!
What does this puppy cost?
I second TheZodiac's sentiment.
sooo hot...want to touch the hiney
Best. Microsoft product. Ever.
The Macening of Microsoft continues. That mouse looks like a stealth bomber.
Now, I'll complain about Microsoft's software all day long, but when it comes to keyboards and mice, MS makes solid products. There may be better ones out there, but I wouldn't know it 'cause this is one place where I'm 100% brand-loyal. I can't WAIT until this comes out!
daddy like, but where's the numeric keypad?
Very ultimate indeed!
This thing looks SO sweet. Especially with the backlit keys and lack of wires. But come on--like felix said--where the heck is the numeric keypad?
Yeah.... the lack of numeric keypad is definitely odd. Could MS be taking a cue from the apple playbook by sacrificing functionality for design? Sure looks it. But hell, I'm so used to laptops these days, I could probably deal without one. I'd imagine there's a function key for accessing the "numeric keypad" on top of the letters. Is that a trackball on the right with the windows logo on it?!?!!? Hahaha, that'd be wild. There are right and mouse buttons for something.... hopefully not that directional pad in the upper right corner.
nice CAD, where's the product?
Now what would make this product would be if my xbox 360 rechargeables work with it. :D
I sure hope if you forget to activate it in 30 days it suddenly doesn't turn ugly
False. The ultimate keyboard is the IBM M-class.
numeric key pad? Come on Felix, this isn't your accountant's keyboard...
This looks like a keyboard from Star Trek TNG!
This looks like an update of the Microsoft Media Center keyboard, with a little bit of an ergonomic curve in the center, plus backlighting. And yes, that's why there's no numeric keypad (though those are useful for some apps). I don't see it as Mac-ification, other than the backlighting / light sensors as PowerBook laptops have had for several years now. (It's a good idea; I was surprised no one copied that sooner.) I'm sticking to my Natural Keyboard 4000. And for wireless keyboards, I prefer ones with built-in trackpads to pointers; Adesso makes one.
Yeah, yeah...nice keyboard
I have to point out that "penultimate" means next to last.

But... the colors... black with pastel pink, green, and blue highlights; who picked this palatte? A-Ha?
Mashuren: Word.
What mashuren said. Is it clickety? No. No sale.
Nice looks, but where are are the pgup/dn/home/end/ins/del keys? I actually use those on a regular basis.
