Fujitsu Joins Battery Recall Club

fire_fighter_clipart.gifDell, Apple, Lenovo, IBM and Toshiba have welcomed Fujitsu with open-arms to the battery recall club. This is an exclusive club that decided to use Sony batteries in their laptops which inadvertently causes big ba-da booms.

Fujitsu will be recalling 287,000 batteries (hit the jump to see if your Fujitsu is on recall notice). When will it end?

  • Nice Fifth Element reference

  • My Fujitsu battery was recalled last year, before it was cool. Now all you kids with your emo musics and hair straighteners are just shitting on my subculture. *le sigh*

  • I wonder if my "Duraflame" battery is included.

Come on guys, this is good stuff, how about a comment invite.

  • When is somebody going to recall cigarettes?

  • oh shiite...I have a P1510D. Guess I gotta go jump through a bunch of hoops now. I also bought a extended battery for it. I wonder if that's included in the recall.

I hope Sony's PR takes a nice big black eye for this inconvenient crap.

  • And I'm sitting here, typing this on a HP..the only mainstream laptop maker to not get hit. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

PS I don't count Acer cause they aren't as mainstream as the rest.

  • Mine's on the list. Ah well. But... even if they're recalling the batteries, I don't see much point to sending mine in, unless they're going to offer a replacement immediately (which I understand Dell isn't doing, at least). My laptop's not much good without a battery.

  • Does anyone else think that the problem might not be the battery? Because if all those companies are sharing the same battery, they are probably also sharing the same charging circuit. I am just waiting for another laptop to burn up with a non-Sony battery, so that manufacturers will have to give us all new laptops!

Now that would be a recall...

  • Toshiba has not recalled the batteries for their laptops. On their website they say they have not identified any "overheating" problem with their laptop batteries.

However, they are talking with Sony about possibly offering free replacement batteries for some Toshiba models that use Sony-brand batteries just for the peace of mind of the laptop owners.
