The cover-mounted external display, SideShow, makes its debut in Asus's 12" W5Fe notebook, which sports Vista from the get-go to support SideShow. It actually runs off of an independent operating system which can be fired up without turning on the rest of the notebook, and while it's ostensibly for displaying info on the go, it also provides opportunities to screw around without committing to a full-blown notebook setup, given that it can be used to play Solitaire and other simple distractions. Of course, you still have to pull the notebook out of your bag, so we're not sure exactly how useful it is.

Thought I saw my name in the title for a minute there... Hehe
Its useful because it doesnt need to waste all the energy to power up the whole laptop, what with its intel core 2 duo processor. watch an inconveniant truth, then you'll know how important it is!
@marty
I do hope you're being sarcastic... If you're not... God save us.
can anyone think of ANY possible useful task that can be done with the outside screen that will justify the huge price tag it's sure to bring? >_>. even the detatchable one with sideshow support was more useful than this...because it could be used as an mp3/video player INDEPENDENTLY of the laptop, otherwise, i doubt many would choose watching or performing tasks on such a small screen when they are literally an inch away from a 17" lcd within >_>.

Looks about as useful as socks on a chicken!
I wouldn't want a notebook with an arse like that.
@Coach,
