The Ugliest, Fattest MacBook Ever Is Only $6800

This overwrought leather and anodized aluminum slab is $6800. It's a MacBook. Sure, the underside is European aniline leather, and it comes with Windows XP and Office pre-installed. But it's just a MacBook, fattened up with 2.5 extra pounds and a couple extra inches of aluminum and dead animal hide, and a generous slathering of shitty taste. But don't feel guilty! No, because you're also buying an XO Laptop for a struggling child in a developing country, like Alabama. And that is priceless. Plus six thousand, eight hundred dollars. AT&T Flip Flops on One iPhone Policy

I've come to the conclusion that AT&T just loves toying with us when it comes to the iPhone. Just days after limiting buyers to a single iPhone, it's back to the old threefer rule—apparently they found enough iPhones lying around in a closet somewhere to go back to biz as usual. FastMac U-Charge is the First Universal External Apple Laptop Battery Charger

We've reviewed MacBook and MacBook Pro battery chargers before, but the problem with that is that they aren't compatible between different laptop types. Not so with FastMac's U-Charge. Their external battery charger lets you juice up MacBook Pro (15 and 17-inch), MacBook, PowerBook G4, iBook and even PowerBook G3 batteries externally all from the same unit.

iPhone Keeps Invading the World

Orange, which already has the iPhone in France, has issued a press release announcing it'll also be on sale in Austria, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and its African markets, sometime "later this year." Swisscom has also announced they'll be selling the iPhone in Switzerland. [Orange and Pocket-Lint]

Singapore Airlines Flights Get iPhone/iPod Docks and 15.4-inch LCDs

Singapore Airlines is installing iPod docks and 15.4-inch widescreen LCDs in their all-Business Class Airbus A340-500 flights between NY/LA and Singapore, ensuring that we're going to be flying with them if we ever have to travel to that part of the world. Each business customer can dock their iPhone or iPod and watch their own movies on the included noise-canceling headphones—which will be interrupting when the captain wants tell you to look off to your left so you can see a drunken Superman mooning your plane. Flights from Newark with this will start May 15 (today), and August for the LA ones. Maybe now business passengers won't engage in business time whilst in the air.

John Mayer Cheats On Apple With Blackberry Bold

Jesús has been doing a rash of John Mayer / Apple stories lately, for I don't really know what reason, but you guys seem to care about it a lot more than I do. Here's another: a Blackberry Bold, which is an interesting sign in terms of taste making and trendsetting by the guy who usually chooses all things Apple. More »

iPod, Sony Ericsson Phones Appear in Metal Gear Solid 4; No Xbox 360s to be Found

This is… weird. Apparently, in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4 (never heard of it), you can have a fifth-gen iPod in your inventory for some reason. Also, there appears to be a girl using a Sony Ericsson W62S flip phone as well. I'm hoping you can kill guards by jamming the iPod into their throats, but I'm not holding out hope. Hit the jump for a couple more screenshots of the sweet, sweet product placement in action. More »

AOL Desktop 1.0 Comes to Mac

Things I'd do before installing AOL Desktop software onto my Mac:

1. Eat a live cockroach.
2. Get a Darth Maul facial tattoo.
3. Start running.
4. Date any of the contestants from The Bachelor.

For those who have already completed alternatives 1-4, feel free to hit the jump to scope the details.

Intel Denies Atomic iPhone Rumor

Rumors about an Atom-powered tablet based on the iPhone are a bit premature and overwrought, says Intel. We all jumped on it after the head of Intel Germany made some cryptic (and perhaps poorly translated) comments. He was talking about types of gadgets, not specific gadgets. Sadly, we'll probably have to wait a little longer for this particular Jobsian riff. [I4U; Apple 2.0]

Intel Germany CEO Spills on Atom-Based Mini-Tablet iPhone

Through the fabulously true-to-life magic of machine translation comes word from ZDNet.de that Intel Germany CEO Hannes Schwaderer has confirmed an upcoming, larger (more tablet-y?) "version of the iPhone" based on Intel's Atom platform. Supposedly, the beefier unit size isn't due to the Atom chipset, but to the previously rumored bigger 720x480 display. More »

Dealzmodo: Refurbished iPhones For $249 and $349

If you don't mind using a phone that's been face-greased by someone else over who knows how many months, AT&T's refurb store has some pretty decent deals on iPhones. The 8GB is $249 and 16GB is $349, perfect for buying now and then regretting one month later when the 3G iPhone is available. At least you got a good deal on it, and perhaps your wife won't mind using an older model if her current phone sucks donkey anyway. [AT&T]

AT&T Limiting iPhones to ONE Per Customer, No Cash or Checks

AT&T just sent out an internal memo to its employees today limiting all iPhone purchases to one per customer—down from a previous three—and making everyone pay with credit cards or debit cards. Do they want to make their stock last until the 3G iPhone is out? Probably, since people who buy more than one are usually not regular guys who just wants to use the phone for themselves. Xtand Makes iPhone Into Very Small, Underpowered iMac

The Xtand is a solid aluminum stand that not only holds your iPhone when your hands have better things to do, but does so in that "I'm an aluminum stand that looks like an iMac stand" kind of way. It's 100% fanboy gear, but we have to admit, the 360-degree rotation and cable management system (aka hole in the back) actually look kind of convenient. No word on price at this time. If only Jeff Foxworthy's career were alive right now, we could end this post with a decent "you might be an Apple fanboy if..." joke. Our condolences to his family. [JustMobile via MobilitySite]

BlackBerry Bold (aka 9000) Will Sync to iTunes

According to CNET, RIM is planning to ship the newly announced BlackBerry Bold (aka 9000) with some newfangled music capability that the folks at Apple may not be all that pleased with. The program in question has been dubbed "Blackberry Media Sync"—and it will make it possible to transfer music to the phone via iTunes. There has been no official word yet, but my guess is that Steve's reaction will be to bypass diplomacy and stomp on RIM Godzilla style. [CNET]

First Tour: Huge Boston Apple Store

We're here at the Boylston Street Apple Store for Media Day. No line outside, but plenty of reporters playing with the toys. Ron Johnson, Apple's SVP of Retail, is here with hizonnah Mayor Thomas Menino to open the largest Apple Store in the country (confirmed!). The Mayah "loves" the store and made a joke at the expense of the Back Bay Architectural Commission, which was hesitant to approve the project. Menino said he wasn't a fan of the prior building and didn't know why anyone would want to save it for "historical" reasons. Get more details on the new location after the jump.

Apple Perceived As Gay-Friendly, Samsung Not

In a recent survey, 757 gay and lesbian participants were asked to rank companies by their gay-friendly factor. Apple came in first place among tech companies with 39% of participants strongly considering the brand to be gay-friendly. Among all brands, Apple came in second behind Bravo (who dominated with a rating of 52%). But alas, things didn't turn out so well for our friends (we can no longer be seen in public with) at Samsung.

Latest 3G iPhone Rumor Brings GPS, Mobile TV, Videoconferencing, into the Equation

A report in a Swiss publication claims that the long-awaited, much-speculated 3G iPhone will rock GPS, mobile TV and videoconferencing. Le Matin claims that mobile phone provider Swisscom will get the privilege of flogging Apple's cellphone in the land of the cuckoo clock, and that it will be available some time this summer.
