PS3 Grey Marketwatch: Ebay Bubble Shows Prices up to $99,999,999

ps3auctionebaywatch.pngEbay didn't like presales, but has no problem with sale of the actual consoles.

How much PS3s are selling for on Ebay: $1500 and upwards of $5000, in different states of bundle.
Ebay auctions that didn't meet minimum bid: $2000 and below
Outrageous auctions: $10,000 to $99,999,999.00

UPDATE: The auction for $99,999,999 was taken down. I think that on top of the violence, we'll see lots of mail fraud, but also, I think people are starting to see how ridiculous it is to pay this much for a console. Even if people are willing to stand around in the rain for it, overnight, and it does have supercomputing capabilities.

  • Is this like the dumbest thing you have ever seen? If someone actually won the bid are they really expecting someone to pay this kinda crap.

Oh shit.... I just looked out the window and I just saw a pig fly! Weeeeeeeee!

  • Looks like ebay is cancelling them as fast as they can. givemeyourshoes's link doesnt work anymore and the highest that I am finding on ebay is $15,000. What kind of person would pay that much for a system?? I am thinking for that much you can just call Sony themselves and have them custom build you one and overnight it to you.

  • There's a link on Fark saying that the same bidder is bidding $15,000 on all the PS3 auctions. I find this extremely hilarious.

  • What kind of person would pay that much, you ask? Some gear-whore, status-enslaved, consumer iDiot. All to boost an ego which mistakes worthiness with the ability to show off expensive toys. So, in this case, you get a twit with a criminally overpriced PS3.

  • Here's one for $45k. Buy it now for $500k (that's 2 houses). But... 75% goes to Red Cross so it's ok! LOL!

  • i wouldnt say people are getting smarter...

  • pcdism... where do you live? thats not even a nice condo in the bay area.

but in any event am I the only who is hoping the bottom of the market will fall out, and everyone who waited in line all night to sell the thing on ebay doesnt even make back what they spent on the thing? ahhh... wishful thinking...

  • Time is money. Mime is money. I bid 45,000 silent minutes.

  • Finally got my PS3 this morning after camping out at a Best Buy for about 36 hours. Slept 10 hours straight, woke up and fired up the system and writing this via a roll up keyboard laying on my new toy.

My recommendation to people who are ready to pay high dollars to a new release console is not to go online but go to a console camp site very early am and just make an offer to a spot close to the front of the line.

Believe me, for the person who is waiting in line just to make some extra cash, 5-6 hundred dollars is good enough when it is 20hours later and it's so freaking cold out. There, you paid 1200 for a PS3 instead of this insane numbers I'm seeing.

Remember this prior to PS4 launch :P

  • Even better ( as far as my entertainment value goes, at least ) is this prick:

Hoping to make some quick cash off someone who can't tell a 2 from a 3, one assumes...

  • Yeah come on, it's doesn't even make sense to report this as it's not a real bid. It's some 15 year old hacker who phished an Ebay account and is bidding crazy as a prank. This doesn't deserve attention.
I'm tired of PS3 mania. The people standing all night risking robbery or worse for a game console are either doing it out of greed or are obsessed with having a game machine they don't have, because they are convinced the one they have doesn't matter, since their lives revolve around having the newest anything, old won't make them happy anymore.
It's a marketers dream to have a bunch of 18-24 year olds to convice what they have now doesn't matter now there's a newer thing that's coming out.
Sure there's much more compelling games on the PC if you have good hardware, but nothing matters to the people who have days to sit out in the weather like a bum just to have a chance to buy a game console a few weeks before they could buy it normally.
I really think it's the chains like Best Buy and the others that encourage it. They could say no line can form before one hour before release day opening, they really could but they don't. Instead they put these people in crappy weather and risk of rape or robbery for whatever reason.
At least they are developing the much needed homeless skills for when they aren't living in their parents basement with no job, because a normal person can't afford to live 10 days on a sidewalk to buy a game console before other people.

  • @ Hello_Newman

You really think a retailer saying that you can't form a line until 1 hour before opening would help anything? All you would have is people camping out across the street in a "pre-line", or worse a mad dash to get in line like that poor guy that dislocated his jaw at the Walmart.

  • There aren't even any good games out for it!! I'm in the Playstation camp, but why bother buying it if there is only crap games for it? I played the demos at Target; NBA 07 and some off-road truck game? Wow. i am impressed. I think the eBay bidding is HILARIOUS. Fuck these re-selling bastards.
