Guilty! I haven't been to see a movie in MONTHS. I really enjoy the movies, and when I see one in the theater that I like I ask myself why I don't see more. I like to pretend that I'm rebelling against the MPAA for some of their tactics, but I'm not really. I'm just not interested in the movies, or spending the money, or dealing with annoying people, or, well, the bottom line is that I picked up World of Warcraft and have a Tivo.

The fact is, nobody wants to go to the majority of the crap they put out nowadays when you have the option to wait until it can be rented. Star Wars movies did just fine in the theater but with all the remakes of old good movies becoming standard fare, coupled with the quality of our home theatre options, why should we spend a small fortune going to EVERY movie? There are some movies that are original enough and possibly marketed properly enough to still get people to theatres. Maybe Hollywood needs to take the blame here and do a better job than they've been doing lately. Instead they all just want to blame it on downloads...

Here is an idea - get more people to go to the movies by lowing the fucking price of the shit. ALL the shit. gaaaawd, what an IDIOT.

Most people who are movie junkies now days own big screen televisions and surround sound systems with booming subs. So why would you pay eighteen bucks for a couple tickets, pay another fifteen bucks for soda and snacks, then sit in an uncomfortable piece of crap seat for two hours (three or four for a Peter Jackson flick), and pray to God that nobody sits in front of you. My comfortable recliner, and pause button for bathroom breaks wins every time.

I actually think this could be fun. I'd love to watch a great football game with friends on a huge screen and have somebody bring us beer. You have to find just the right location in sports bars to see the game you want, and even then there isn't any sound (usually). And sure, I have a big screen at home, but nothing like a giant movie theater screen.

There's a second-run theater in Raleigh that shows Monday Night Football, actually. I went there for a game last year, and the experience left me a little cold. The food was still movie-theater expensive, and the projector was not HD. I got into an email conversation with the owner, and unbelievably, he showed no interest in upgrading his projector to HD. And people wonder why cinemas are struggling. Home cinema is where it's at for movies, and sports fans can find big enough screens in sports bars if they don't have one at home.

we just lost our movie theater in the small town i live in. We are 10 minutes away from a much larger town with 3 theaters that are newly remodled. It's a shame they couldn't show older movies, or cult classics or something nitchy. I would drive 60 miles to see a midnight showing of The Wall, but nobody does that anymore. Maybe once they all go digital it will make it easier to do that sort of thing. They just need to be creative and think outside the Hollywood box. I hope it works...
