Exclusive Video: Peter Moore Announces Downloadable Movies and TV Shows For Xbox Live Marketplace

Word broke last night that Microsoft will add downloadable movies and TV shows to the Xbox Live marketplace. How about a video (taken by Giz's very own Richard Blakeley) of Mr. Xbox 360 himself Peter Moore delivering the good news?

  • Any news for the Europeans? Yeah didn't think so..
You'd think they'd go for easy kills like the UK where subway tickets cost $6 one way and we wouldn't even sneeze at $4 for a movie but no they would rather leve us in the cold for a year or two...

  • I'm excited about it personally. I wont use it that much early on due to the fact that I'm old school and if I 'own' something I want to have a physical representation of it in my hands. (i.e. dvds) but the fact that it's there means there's a healthy investment, it also means with the interoperability they're working on with the Zune that the chances for Zune integration here are good (most likely for the 2nd Gen Zune though).

Ultimately I'm glad I bought into the MS camp for my media/entertainment. I think its going to pay off over Sony in the long run.

  • This a pretty good idea IMHO. I think I would be way more inclined to purchase a TV show via XLM than iTMS, just for the simple fact that it's already connected to my TV.

  • Not being too negative, but what happens to your purchases if you decide not to renew your xbox live subscription? I doubt that MS will allow burning purchased product to DVD, so no alternative but to be locked into xbox live subscription forever. Assuming that you have to buy under the xbox live gold subscription, of course.

    Olivier, ditto for Singapore

  • lovethegiz: You've never had to have a Gold subscription to make Marketplace transactions and re-download stuff you've bought.

  • hmm need a bigger HD for this to be really exciting ... makes previous post more believeable

  • DannoHung: Thanks.... That's why I love the giz, you learn something new on very visit :-)

  • bugger: very = every

  • I'll probably use it...as long as they have competitive pricing.

And I hope they invest heavily in their servers...If I want to watch a movie...I want to do it now...not tommorow. So hopefully the wait isn't over 20 minutes...otherwise I'd get kinda turned off by it.

I wish it was 14 days...and you could watch it as much as you want...not just within a 24 hour period.

netflix (movies) is like 6 bucks a month...can this compete with that? I hope to watch a movie it isn't over $3 per movie...and for a tv show...I would say around $1.

  • I might use it for some rentals, if I'm too lazy to go to Blockbuster. But, for actual purchases, I'll stick to iTunes.
