Wii: Coming To Theatres Soon

Craving some Wii Sports on a 344' screen, programmer Jon Peck and a movie theater manager buddy set up the Wii on the ultimate big screen. Instead of laying down hundreds of feet of cable, Peck created his own sensor bar using LEDs. Apparently they not only worked perfectly, but were functional from several rows back.

And the rest is YouTube history.

  • WOW! I am so jealous. Mark, no anyone with a theater we can borrow?

  • :/ none of those games use the sensor bar the only thin that would have would be the menus

  • When I was enrolled at WMU there was a group of students/gamers who'd "book" one of the small theaters on campus, set up a Dreamcast, and have the ultimate Madden tournament. Sure beats binging on a Friday night!

  • Wow... I can't believe they didn't throw the Wiimotes through the screen. I mean.. isnt that happening to everyone? (seriously... I can't stand those lawsuits, they make my blood boil)

Back on track though.. thats awesome! Im totally jealous and would love to play in an environment like that. I'll be honest though... Wii sports does not look that entertaining to me. I'd like to see that set up with a FPS or something. Thats just me though. ;)

  • A friend of mine used to work at a small privately owned theatre where I live, he'd get it for the night for pretty damned cheap too.

I remember hooking up my xbox and playing hits 20-04 or whatever it was called.

I'd really like try some gears or lost planet on one of those things though. /drool

  • 344", not 344'. That would be one enormous screen.

  • I love the music at the beginning. Anyone know what it is? I could use it in my home movies.

This demo is crazy. You know they're sweating over in Sonyland. I'm sure they're happy about the PS2 sales this season but with all the Wii-buzz...it looks like it's Nintendo's ball to drop now.

  • 480p on a movie theater screen? the vid refuses to load for me, but i imagine you could easily see individual pixels from the front row...

  • Okay, the big screen is nice.

But what amazes me is the same thing that always amazes me when I see a Wii demo--the Wii itself. It is a fucking amazing piece of technology, and light years ahead of anything anyone else (especially Sony) could even dream of.

  • This seriously seems to be the future. I really hope some movie theater managers see this. So many theaters going out of business in the states; this could pick things up for them

Isn't Wii Sports the game that's had people chucking their remotes at the TVs? Specifically bowling, in fact...
  • The big screen brings out the badness of the Nintendo-games.

I, for one, am not too impressed by Wii cept for it's party-piece, but I seem to be the only one...

  • If only there are regularly held Wii Cinema tournaments.

  • OMG I SO want to play Halo III at the new theater that opened up near me, it has 18 auditoriums +1 Imax auditorium, and has RENTABLE AUDITORIUMS, IMAGINE THAT CONCEPT.

lol think about Halo III IMAX EDITION, that would so ROCK.

    Wow.
I wish I could play on a ultra-mega huge screen, jeeze!

That is, well for lack of a better term, bad-ass wicked!

  • that's from people treating tennis like andre agassi and disaster following, but still where you point has no bearing on the game
