It's that time of the year again—time for Wired News to highlight the top 10 pieces of vaporware for this year. Some of the winners include, of course, the Optimus keyboard, also the SED TV, Skype for Symbian and TiVoToGo for Mac.
Another piece of vaporware noted by Wired is the "iPod Killer." Thinking about the year in review it does seem every month there was another new iPod killer that ultimately failed (even the biggest iPod killer of all, the Zune). Topping the list as the number one piece of vaporware of 2006 is actually a repeat winner: Duke Nukem Forever. Congrats, Duke.

why does eveyone want to call v1 of a microsoft product the "X-killer?" look at the xbox ... it's all about getting a foothold and then ramping up.
save the "ipod killer" comments for v2 of the zune when they actually design their own shell and hardware.
As much as I hate to say it, Paradise has a point. I don't think anyone was thinking that M$'s operating system was going to take over the world with the advent of Windows 3.1; folks were already calling the Xbox an also-ran mere weeks after its introduction.
I'm no fan of Microsoft but I have to give them credit for their stick-to-it-iveness...
Damn them! (^-^)
Is there a reason iPhone isn't in here? Is it because Apple hasn't announced it yet?
homerjay: Yes, they said that since Apple hasn't officially announced it to the public, it doesn't count.
Long live the unborne Optimus Keyboard!
Why is SED vaporware?
Didnt toshiba spend like 1.2 billion on a manufacturing plant?
Im very excited and looking forwards to SED and I know Toshiba didnt spend 1.2 billion vapor dollars.
I have to repeat Trance-Addict's seniments.
SED is going to start mass production in 2007 as announced. How is it vaporware exactly?
SED is Vaporware because the technology was first promised to be delivered at the end of 2005, and as recently as the 2006 CES, Toshiba indicated availability before the end of 2006. They have about three days...
Yeah, I can't wait for Zune 2.0: a re-badged SanDisk.
J. Allard, you fucking genius!
For me, the Mophie Knox wallet. Where is it? Multiple dates, October, November, December, now no date. Never an e-mail update. I'd post a link, but somebody might just end up buying a product with no due date.
Optimus Keyboard.
