The Clapper Plus—a Silent Clapper ... Wtf?

clapper121606.jpgMark Grossmeyer is man known for his often unique and innovative gadgets, but he has really outdone himself with this one. Grossmeyer didn't own a clapper because he did not want to take up his wife while going to bed, so what did he do? Well, he reinvented the clapper and added a remote-control. Welcome the Clapper Plus. This is the same old clapper that will still recognize the sound of hands slapping together, but it also includes a remote control for more silent light-turning-off methods. The Clapper Plus should be appearing on infomercials at 4 a.m. soon.

  • Wanted to see if I could get some opinions out there...

I have HDTV (and my PC) connected to a Dell 2405FPW. When I watch movies on my PC, I can watch from across the room, bring my wireless keyboard with me, and before I go to bed, I can press the 'Sleep' button and the monitor goes into PowerMode essentially turning itself off.

I want to set up the monitor on a clapper like this so that when I'm watching HDTV I don't have to get out of bed and press the button on the monitor to turn it off; instead I can clap or use this remote.

Does anyone see any danger in plugging an LCD monitor into a clapper? I'm just worried that some kind of 'shut down' process or something needs to happen before it turns off. Any comments, or suggestions for a better way to do this?

  • I have a Dell LCD 2405FPW monitor. I watch TV on it, but don't have a way to turn it off unless I crawl out of bed to press the button.

Does anyone think that there is danger in using a Clapper like this to turn off an LCD monitor? Have a better way to do it?

  • I don't know that merely owning a clapper would prevent me from taking up my wife before bed.

  • "take up" his wife, eh?

I didn't know that that's what clapping does to sleeping people.

  • take up his wife hmmm...

  • It'd be funny if the clapper remote just played a recorded "clap" sound.
