Coca-Cola and Nestl will roll out Enviga in test markets in the Northeast US next month. The carbonated green tea-based beverage is supposed to be able to actually burn calories. Its blend of green tea extracts is said to boost metabolism, burning 50 to 100 calories per 12-oz serving. That'll cost you, though, about $1.29 a can. The company plans a national rollout in early 2007.
So what do you think, readers? Is this bullshit, or is it possible to drink your way to runway-model thinness?

Try ice water. Sip it regularly throughout the day. It also burns calories as your body has to warm it up for processing. You'll pee a bit more, but think of it as peeing away your flab, fatty.
Green tea extracts have been proven slightly effective in weight loss.
It is not going to make an otherwise unhealthy person start dropping pounds.
1) create calorie deficeit (sp)
2) exercise
...oh, but greent tea has many reputed benefits so drink up, good stuff.
Drink vodka instead. I would like to see you keep your calories drinking a bottle or two a day.
I suppose that would be more expensive.
So that means, if I sit around all day drinking this, I could possibly become anorexic and kill myself from malnutrition?
Shouldn't they have a warning label, can only drink a max of 5 a day otherwise bad things will happen to you, your family, and your unborn children?
That can only mean that I'll be seeing people order a #2 at McDonalds while guzzling down an Enviga instead of a Diet Coke.
Here's the deal. In a complete 180 turn from the movie "Supersize Me", I'll buy enough Enviga to fill a camelback per day for a month and film the progress. We'll get to the bottom of these results before Coke has a chance to capitalize (aside from my purchases).
Calorie burning sodas, its a joke...Im going to start selling Ipecac soda in a can..it will promise to drop you more than a pound of fluids instantly...see instant weight loss
Remember when we had laws governing the claims that products could make and we chuckled over the old snake oil ads and their outrageous claims.
What's old is new again.
It'll burn calories, but in the same way Coffee, Red Bull, Speed and Cocaine burn calories: By jacking you up with stimulants to levels usually reserved for Bloggers, Gamers, I-bankers and MLB Players. Want to lose weight? PUT THE F*&KING FORK DOWN!!!
the fda really needs to come down on Coca-Cola and Nestlé like a hammer.
Yeah, give 'em the Ban Hammer!
If it really burned 50-100 calories per can they wouldn't be selling it for only $1.29!!
What kinda travishamockery is this private?! Fat burning Enviga?! I'll help you all burn fat!
Platooon! Attention!
Half right face!
Front leaning rest position MOVE!
P.T. is free...
I only have one thing to say to people with weight problems...Stop eating so much and get some bloody excercise!!!
I'm with aDuh;
Here is the most simple way lose weight and improve your health:
- Write down everything that you eat.
- Choose a spot 1 mile from your house and walk there, once a day.
- Drink more water.
Writing down what you eat will subconsciously cause you to examine your diet and adjust it slowly. - you will be surprised at how much crap you eat.
Walking 1 mile away from your house makes you walk home - 2 miles a day is a start. You could park your car that far from your office, or catch the train 'one stop' away. It doesnt matter how you do it, just walk 2 miles a day.
Drinking water assists in reducing the size of fat cells along with the excercise.
Repeat and rinse.
"Sure, I'm losing weight, but my neighbors are complaining that my heartbeat is keeping them up at night."
Enviga - now with 20% more Meth!
Or you could just eat this...

not approved by fda to help you lose weight then its just crap
all that natural stuff in foods like this dont do anything
maybe this drink has som amphetamines or ephedrine or something in it , then ok
otherwise you can claim what you want with natural products "make you 5 feet taller....results may vary'
1) At one time a company sold "diet pills" which contained tapeworm eggs. They really worked--you lost weight without changing your eating habits or getting more exercise.
2) A buddy on a training exercise in Panama picked up a rare microbe which almost stops absorbtion of food in the small intestine. It was discovered when he collapsed and doctors discovered he had extreme malnutrition. The problem: it's so rare the doctors didn't want to cure him, they wanted to keep him so they could study it. If he hadn't been a doctor also, he's probably still be "undergoing treatment". This would be an excellent method for people wanting to lose weight without changing their life.
I thought this was a gadget blog not a women's magazine =P
Snakeoil all the way.
But then again, "Will Give You Cancer" was not an option....
as it should be...hint hint
sure, the green tea components help you burn off 10 of the 120 calories worth of corn syrup you just drank.
Craig Hyatt, you're silly. This drink only has 5 calories in it, not 120. Do some research next time before making unfounded commentary. You're as bad as the people you're critisizing.
Eugh, tape worms. I remember seeing a Hong Kong movie about fat people (with Andy Lau!) where they were talking about eating tapeworms like it wasn't anything special...
And that's when I realized why all the Hong Kong girls I was friends with were so crazy.
This is BS. Green Tea became popular when Anna Nicole lost pounds with Trim Spa, since it's a main ingrediant there. Now, Costco sells a Green Tea Extract Fat Burner tablet, which does nothing for my gut, but luckily has as much caffiene as a cup of coffee. Very good on those mornings when you don't have time for coffee.
@qutip80
it's called *hyperbole*. maybe this particular drink isn't loaded with corn syrup like most colas, but it's only 5 calories because it's sweetened with aspartame... so much for a "natural" health drink concept. what my post was meant to address was the idea of a cola company selling a still-unhealthy product marketed as if it were healthy and presenting bogus research to back up their claim. yeah, you are right it's only 5 calories not 120 but the point is that the ingredients are neither natural nor healthy. healthier and way cheaper to drink water with no corn syrup and no aspartame.
Here's some research for you:

Some people's comments on here make me sick. Coca Cola didn't make Enviga to make people "possibly become anorexic" or actually expect people to think this is a weight loss drink. They're simply trying to keep up with the energy drink market, considering red bull tastes like piss.
