It's getting to that point in the price/performance curve where battery-powered LED lighting fixtures are disposable and practical. A prime example is Sylvania Dot-it LEDs, stick-up lights that cost less than $10 and shine for over a hundred hours.
Stick the power-sipping pocket-sized lights almost anywhere, and press the middle whenever you need a bit of illumination from the three white LEDs within. You can take them elsewhere and stick them up again, thanks to their 3M sticky stuff that works kinda like a Post-it Note. Available now.

I have one of these. You have to remove it from the surface it is on to change the batteries. Unlike a Post-It, this tore my drywall! Never again...
I do still use it - unattached to anything. The brightness is pretty decent. It's good for checking wiring behind the AV cabinet.
I think my scout troop as well as myself could use a couple dozen of these.
Disposable? Doesn't seem very "treehugger" to me. What's wrong with creating something that you change the battery?
The Batteries are replaceable, they say to replace the three AAA's after 100 hours of use to maintain brightness.
these have been around for some time, i got a couple for christmas last year. they're pretty cool, and suprisingly well built; the top casing is aluminum. i keep one in my car; it makes for a cheap and bright LED flashlight.
Oh. So I can throw it away, but I don't have to. Suddenly I feel empowered.

Kind of like a woman.
Wow....
Yeah, I agree that the 'disposable' reference is a bit misleading. Definately practical though.
Where the hell are the LED Maglites already?
Yeah, these have been around for years, but are still pretty useful. I used one in college as a reading light, just stuck it to the bottom of my roommate's bunk.
