Yeah, we've shown you a couple LED faucets before, but this one is different. Check it: rather than just making your water blue, which makes you feel like you're doing the dishes with antifreeze, it changes color based on the temperature, making you feel like you're doing the dishes with either antifreeze or Gatorade.
It's a cool concept, as you won't have to worry about scorching your hand while testing the water again. If it's red, don't mess with it. If you doubt the reality of this product, check the video after the jump for a much less classy version than the one pictured above doin' its thing.

DOOMSDAY DEVICE!
And people in desert countries everywhere are crying at they see gallon after gallon of precious water go down the drain.
ya there was a lot of water wasted in the making of this film.
Why isn't the water the same color after its sitting in the sink?..I call bs..you can do anything with photoshop these days.............
ITS A LIGHT IDOIT
@syntax error
i think you are on to something. instead of all these fancy LED's, they should just add food coloring depending on temp so the water forever stays colored.
That was a bit harsh, but yeah it was kind of a dumb question.... Also, it's spelled IDIOT.
um, antifreeze is usually green. you're thinking window fluid.
This is a great innovation. Everything else in our world is color coded, why not our water. I hope its based off of water temp and not which knobs are turned as I'd hate to see purple water.
It reminds me of the weird blue liquid used in maxi pad commercials. I was always so confused as a kid as to what the hell they were doing in those ads, and now, I wish I never knew...
...or yes, as pisspaws said, it would be more applicable as windshield washer fluid.
Nothing's safer than the combination of electrical wires and water.
so how hot is purple water?
what a waste of water. Now you can expect more water to be wasted with little kids having fun with this thing.
going back to what syntax error said, mabey they can create a matching sink so little kiddies dont go burning them selves in bowls full of hot water
back to what syntax error said, why cant they create a mtaching sink so that little kiddies dont go burning themselves in bowls full of hot water.
I question the decision to make "lukewarm" the color yellow however...
OMFG
Does this mean if my water is TransParent, and I drink it, I may have double-genetalia birthings?
so now we all have to do everything involving sinks in the dark to tell the water temp?
Carmina Burana can make anything exciting although it's use this time was hilarious.
Great video.
You know what's cool? So you never burn yourself again (I don't know how many times I've needed this), but then you get electrocuted.
@pisspaws, In the UK, Antifreeze is colored blue.
There's several types and colours of antifreeze. We use a reddish/orange coloured one in the firetrucks I drive. It's good to match the paint job with coolant ya know.
I had a Jetta that had orange antifreeze... piece o junk :(
Still it would be fun to put in the guest bath, to catch the 'rents of guard. Ya gotta play with the old people, keep them on their toes and out of the retirement home. Furthermore keep their hands out of my wallet.
Instead of all this fuss, why don't we just use red antifreeze for hot water, and blue windshield washer fluid for cold water? Then we could get rid of this whole lighting system all together!
Course you'd probably want to get youself a Brita.

Somebody else posted a link to an Engadget post about this faucet over a year ago here:
http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/faucets/led-faucet-light-13...
The particular spout used on the video didn't really do a great job of demonstrating this technology. Probably had one of those small screen dealies on it to catch debri that sometimes finds its way through the pipes.
I would think a smooth stream of water, like the one pictured on the fancy faucet, would do a better job of carrying the light all the way to the sink. Even so, me thinks that original pic utilized a bit of photoshopping.
Now that I think about, what the heck are those screens for on faucets?? Wouldn't you rather any debri that comes through the pipes be passed out the faucet and washed down the drain, rather than sit behind the screen as your clean water rushes by it, possibly becoming contamenated in the process?
Maybe the purpose of those screens is to break up the stream so that when it hits the sink, it doesn't splash as much?
Actually, a solid stream splashes very little, but it's not as easy to accomplish as you would think - a lot of work goes in to making those new-fangled fountains that shoot solid streams.
I think that the screens are there as the last part of the aeration system (injecting air makes it more efficient and minimizes water waste). Without the screen, the water tends to spray about - I think that the screen is there to tame that... Oh, and anything that would plug up the screen would have to make it past the aeration disk, first. Not likely, as the holes are pretty small...
Thanks for the info HiFi. Sounds reasonable.
I think I know what you're talking about reg. the aeration disk. Utility guys had to cut one of the pipes a few houses down from mine. When they put in the new piece, a whole lotta dirt went in with it. Needless, to say, it clogged the faucets of every sink and shower head in the house.
Screens also help to soften hard water.
and the light is a good idea, even if just for the saftey of kids in the house. and the video really did not have to be that long, griny, or with that dumbass music.
I feel stupid for even commenting on this... But of course the image at the top was photoshopped. I mean u gotta be daft not see that it was. Although whos to say that the light doesnt carry nearly that well in a solid stream.
Nice, a usefull gadget. Anyone know where I can buy it?
Are people seriously complaining about wasting a few gallons of water in a commercial? I'm trying to avoid a "you smelly nerds probably never shower" comment, but, well, too late. It's WATER. If people in poor desert communities want some, they should MOVE OUT OF THE DESERT.
Actually you want the water to be in a reasonable state of turbulance, the more turbulant, the more light lost, in general, compared to a perfect cylinder with light inserted at the critical angle for refraction back into the stream. If you had a perfectly cylindrical stream of water, then you might end up with just a single bright red (or blue) dot in the sink. Not much use, and def not very pretty.
As for water wastage, I agree, this is a bit over the top for an advert. But you never know, maybe they set up a test bed to recycle the water back up again, (after all they do design faucets, these people) and then they're only wasting power..... Damn.
As for everyone who said mixing water with wires.... Ultrabright LED's run on about 3 volts, and draw sweet ____ all current so put a fuse on a remote battery and no probs.
Honestly some people will just compain about anything.
I hope I get one of these for xmas, I never get ANYthing for Xmas.... Muuuuuum can I get one of these cool faucet thingy's for xmas???
it could be good for kids..c'mon..lighten up all.
And as for the water wasteage, Jesus people. The drain is not a magical object that violates the laws of conservation - water does not cease to exist when it goes down your drain, it gets sent to a treatment plant and recycled.
Worry about watering your lawn before you worry about someone leaving a faucet on for two minutes (all of about 4 gallons of water).
Find something better to complain about.
The amount of water wasted in THIS commercial pales in comparison to almost any other commercial. This is a faucet running for two minutes. Seriously, when you brush your teeth you use more. Get over yourselves, you live in a wasteful society.
uhhh those discs are there so that pot heads can remove them, and use them as screens in makeshift bongs in hotels, and school buildings... I thought this was common knowledge...
You could be a real jackass and switch the red and blue LED's.....
just to catch people off-guard.
If it changed color based on actual temperature, rather than handle status, I'd buy twelve. (Wait, how much is it again?)
Seriously, I'm tired of turning on the hot tap and standing there like a fool, sticking my hand periodically under the ice cold running water, waiting for it to actually become hot.
This could be really useful for many people with disabilities, with limited or no sensation, who often get scalded by hot water. Often we have to it thermostatic valves to ensure that we can never damage ourselves, but that means that we often can never get really hot water...
Many of the gadgets here have uses for people with disabilities - all you have to do is think sideways...if you dare!
