The makers of a sound-activated vibrating sex aid, a two-man company in Osaka, Japan, have managed to get Apple all riled up. The reason? They've named their gadget the gPod, after "the G-Spot and jii, the Japanese word for masturbation." Stuck inside the cooter (the official medical term), the gPod connects to iPods, cellphones or music players, and apparently vibrates in sync to the audio.
Apple started fighting the Japanese company when the latter started applying for trademarks around the world, eventually sending a Japanese lawyer and repeated requests to stop using the gPod trademark. The company laughed off Apple's requests and said they would fight if Apple ever decides to sue.
Apple Computer Inc., meanwhile, is, unlike gPod users, keeping tight-lipped about the case.
Buzz on handy gPod a poison apple for US giant [Mainichi - Thanks Walter!]

IS that a VGA connector???
I think that the University of Connecticut should sue as well.
Does it need an iPod to vibrate?
Hmmm. That might make a great gift for the significant other...bundled with an iPod of course.
Seems like something Apple would have in the "hidden" room in the back of the store for all the big kids. Perhaps that's why they're suing...they already sell something like that...
So lemme get this straight, not only does the user of this device have to place what amounts to a vibrating brick in her "cooter," but she also has to have an ipod cable hanging out of her as well. Way to set the mood!!
Different strokes for different folks, but I'd rather not meet the woman who can accommodate this "aid."
Apple is pissed that they did not think of that idea first!!
Wait, so Gizmodo is trying to attract female readers, and then uses the word 'cooter'?
Nice.
I mean, I love you guys, but that's kinda bunk.
Please tell me they use Calculators as Dildos over in China then. Because that thing as a vibrator is ridiculous.
heh...tight-liped
"Honey, I've looked everywhere for my ipod. HAve you seen it anywhere? It's almost like it got sucked into a black hole..."
WTF!!! I thought Micksweet was joking, that is the actual UCONN logo!
Looks like maybe even a Serial Port. So to use this, you gotta find a 5 yo computer. Then only use Windows 98.
Then you find your anime japanese GF....
Image is not actually of the real gPod.
« Image is not actually of the real gPod. »
really ? this was looking soooo much like a Japanese fancy hi-tech sex toy.
that's too bad: would have been a decent contester against the Styletto for the brick-lookalike competition …
« The gPod Accessible Blood Glucose Meter provides an easy to use interface and communication of test results both visually and audibly. »

see ? doesn't vibrate!
nearest I can tell, this is the actual gPod

Yep the photo is of a different device. I was going to say if that was it they need to come out with a Gpod Nano. The real thing couldn't be shaped that way. Couldn't find any photos of the thing, any reference to the company name, or even info on the names quoted in the original article. Pretty dubios as all the domains with gspot are owned by squatters, think they would have a domain name before going for the expense of trademarks.
I wonder if you can download "Stuck in the Middle" while using this thing?
Yeah, that's definitely the U. of Connecticut logo. I'm confused.
Then again, they have all kinds of weird courses in college. Maybe UCONN has a "Cooter 211: Sex Toys, Music Players, And You" class.
Don't we allready have a gadet that can make sound and vibrate? It is called a cell phone.
Apple cant sue because it isn't using the touch wheel, and it isn't called ipod....though inappropriate, I say they have the right to make a product and call it a G pod..theres toys and gadgets out there all called Isomething or somepod....apple doesn't sue them.
Has Apple ever sued anyone for making things look like the iPod? Nope, that's because they can't sue, since their clickwheel was a copy of Sony's jogwheel, the shape of the iPod is not novel..a slim down walkman if you will. As an mp3 player, it is not the first, so the idea itself is also stolen from others. That's why Apple has sued, because they never made anything original. Only the Apple fanboys like some of the gizmodo writers always keep saying lawsuit is going to happen, Apple will sue them for any new shit that comes out, blah blah blah. Learn a bit of gadget history please. Thanks!
so, I bet my school would get a kick out of the fact that our great name is being used in conjunction with a euphemism for masturbation. While the academic community may not wish to submit to such low brow antics, the student body will surely rejoice in light of this advent of sexual devices.
hehe....masturbation....cooter...
Gutted that this isnt the actual item in the photo. I had visions of it putting up text like
"yeah yeah yeah yeah" "OoooooooOooooooooo" "how was it for you"
"Apple Computer Inc., meanwhile, is, unlike gPod users, keeping tight-lipped about the case."
I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to do that like Showtime at the Apollo: "Booo!" Where is Sandman Simms when you need him?
Maybe apple is angry because they were going to use that name for their gamming device. http://www.gamerevolution.com/oldsite/article
BTW this is the gpod. http://gpod-joymind.seesaa.net/
OMG this is the real product site!

I could have swore that I saw something like this in Tijuana when I was a PFC in the Marines.
Daedric, you're right about the specifics of the design, but to say Apple has never made anything original? Like you point out, in 'Gadget History' it's difficult to be totally original (like in anything else) but what about more attractive, more usable, more refined, a more fulfilling experience. Apple has succeeded in all of these categories. To dis 'fanboys' just makes you sound like a hater, displaying the same level of fanaticism you seem to despise.
Yo....do some better research when posting a photo with an article......here is the link to the description of what that thing really is; http://www.bme.uconn.edu/bme/sendes/Spring06/Team2/index.h...
Yo guys.......do your research before posting a wrong pic with an article......that is not the gPod you are talking about.....whats pictured there is this http://www.bme.uconn.edu/bme/sendes/Spring06/Team2/index.h...
Vibrators aren't necessarily used IN the "cooter," boys. If this brick had actually been the product in question, it could have been a poorly designed clitoral vibrator--though easily bested by a cell-phone, as someone pointed out. They don't all have to look like pee-pees (medical term).
Wrong photo. see http://gpod.tv
this is official site of that company.
Wrong Photo.
this is the offical site of gPod.

The two man company of Osaka.
People need to change the name around just a bit more than that...
