Sally told Susan told Johnny told Sally again that a 15.4-inch Macbook will be released in May 2007. We are actually a little disappointed at the news and would much prefer a smaller version of the notebook. And what the hell is Sally doing talking to Johnny again?
Not that we are questioning Steve Jobs, who cannot do anything wrong, ever. We are just...err...wondering if maybe...some people...probably very few....might be a little interested in an ultra portable. Sure, it can be produced as a Macbook Pro. We Mac users love spending more money.

We too are tired of lugging these big ass laptops around.
How about something more like the size of the Sony Vaio PCG-505VE: 2.5lbs, 10.4 inch screen...size of a "real" notebook.
At 15"...it is more like an oversized artist's sketchpad!
I can't see this as anything but positive. !5" is the sweet spot for most people who are only going to be using a laptop (no desktop) and need it to be portable but have a large enough screen to do regular computing, watch movies and play games. MBPs are still too expensive; Apple needs a lower cost, more durable mainstream 15"er. I'm just surprised it's taking them so long.
Jeez, couldn't agree more - I use my 12" powerbook and am longing for a superfast, supercompact new machine! C'mon Steve - feed us...
ecobore: Get the 13" macbook. Its wider but NOT taller than the 12" books, which means it still workswell on those airline tray tables.
Oh, heck, the Vaio & also the Asus 10.4 are really nice. We wants them with an Apple sticker, precious. And not 2 think that they fitted DVD-DL inside, AND a card reader. *SIGH*
And, sure enough, I will get a beating 4 this, but me also likes some Origami-style computer, like the Archos 740 in shape would be great. Who needs a keyboard, anyway?
yes, I know, the 740 is not an Origami. I just like the form factor...
Lets hope there is a 12inch core 2 duo macbook pro
Nweaver, clearly you've never tried fitting your laptop in your purse. (Given the demographics of this site, I imagine you've never tried fitting much of anything in a purse.) Size DOES matter, and that extra inch of width makes a big difference.
Plus, how many 12-inch powerbook fans are going to be happy with the ibook-equivalent replacement? I don't think it's unreasonable for us to want a top-of-the-line ultraportable.
I've heard rumors that we'll get one next year - my powerbook is beginning to creak, but I'm holding out for that.
We little ones are hoping Apple can actually offer it's laptops in configurations that it's users dearly desire, much like almost every other computer maker in the world.
Think the same, in this case: give the customer what she wants!
yes yes yes!! ino that right now i am wishing for a smaller macbook pro by the end of the year, as it will fit right into the place my dinnerplate macbook pro 15" sits right now in my school bag -_-"
Ok on the 15'' but bring out a true ultra portable 10.4'' or 12.1'' with it.
Also did anyone catch the new nissan altima commercial, the womans building a car online and she's using an imac, they give it full exposure showing the apple logo and all.
Talk about 2 for 1 commercial, apples white hot.
c'mon guys... we need a screenless wearable
and support for those 'eyepods' and a frog
wearable keypad... no screen means really
cheap price... when will it dawn on y'all
that this is the future... wearable screenless
but with a tonguepad... and powered by
piezo shoesoles and solar hat with propeller
for a wind boost... c'mon steve, use that
xlnt xtal ball of yours and get it... and then
give it to us...
If Apple finally does come out with an ultra-portable, I'll buy it the day it is released. Although my desktop is a Mac, I've opted to run Linux on a smaller Sony laptop instead of lugging a large computer just to display the Apple logo.
Apple has never figured out that weight matters in a laptop, and has never built something that was light enough for me to lug 100K miles/year. I'd buy a 3 lb mac laptop in seconds is Apple wanted to sell one. I'm not holding my breath. Apple has never made a laptop under 4lbs.
hmm I might like that but my old iBook DVSE Graphite is still kickin' and I don't really travel enough anymore that I need a faster machine on the road. It has a wireless card so I can check my email and fits on an airplane tray ok....
better come with a bloody dedicated graphics card cos i'm still not paying 3 grand here in australia for a MB...
damn straight we need an ultraportable! from the company that created such sexy and exotic and crappy and WHOAH!-price-point whoozits as the G4 Cube, you'd think the first thing Apple woulda done with their Intelization is unleash a sexy and exotic and crappy and WHOAH!-price-point ultraportable whoozit. Apple, i'm trying to GIVE you my money! take it!!!
