HP R927 Camera Adds Slimming Effect, Makes Girlfriend Happy

HPR927%20copy.jpgHere's a new camera from HP that'll help you answer that age-old - but always tricky - question from your girlfriend: "Do these jeans make me look fat?" Instead of stepping onto a verbal landmine, take her picture with the 8.2MP Photosmart R927, one of several new digital cameras from HP that boasts a special "slimming feature." Before you show her the picture, hit the slimming effect in the Design Gallery in playback, and she'll look as much as 10 pounds thinner on the camera's 3-inch LCD.

"It's a pretty subtle change we've built into the camera," Karl Wardrop, HP's digital imaging product manager told the New York Post. "It's not dramatic. It slims the center of photos and slightly widens the outside to maintain perspective. It's like the (fun-house) mirror from the fair, but not as exaggerated."

While there are many ways to slim (or fatten) a person's physique in Photoshop and other image editing programs, HP is the first manufacturer to offer the effect in-camera. The R927 is available this month for $399.99. Boyfriends of the world can now breathe a sigh of relief. — Dan Havlik

  • That's f-ing hilarious. As America gets fatter we rely on technology to make us look thinner rather than actually addressing the problem. I've got an even better idea: contact lenses with the same distortion built-in. That way you can look at yourself in the mirror and think you're thinner, and you can look at other people and think they're thinner too - no need for beer-goggles, just use ThinSpecs®!

  • I prefer beer goggles, cos then I feel more attractive too!

This could be the dumbest feature ever :-) What's next...digital hair replacements? Plastic surgery FX? Cellulite removal filters ? Oh...how about a "trophy partner" that is always standing next to you in the photos? Crap...still got another 20 minutes on the stair machine...hmmm, the slimming camera is not such a bad idea after all....

  • I, for one, would welcome a camera that would take off about 200 lbs...

  • At last, the perfect camera to reinforce my eating disorder!

  • Wouldn't guys be more inclined to buy a camera which does the opposite? I don't want to give my gf the impression that her cake diet is working.

  • what if you turned the camera sideways for a portrait shot? wouldnt this make you look fatter than you already were?

  • " what if you turned the camera sideways for a portrait shot? wouldnt this make you look fatter than you already were? " i think it would give you a bigger head and larger feet.. two things people who buy this want any way ;) u know what i mean.. big feet.. big....

  • ...shoes? socks? =D

  • I don't know about all you guys out there, but if I get caught taking a picture of my better half with this "slimming feature" mode on...

  • No Phat Chicks !

  • No unreasonably fat chicks!

  • I would like camera automagically paste Mr T's face onto all faces in picture

I thought this was one of the stupidest things ever until I figured out that it was actually a comprimise. The feature they originally wanted was the Fat People Removal Filter - "Like ya know how you've got this really great shot of you and some friends except that you've got the 'fat friend' in the shot and it takes you like HOURS to photoshop them out ?" ...

"Thanks to HP, no one will know what a fat slob I've become."
