Has your expensive smoking habit prevented you from picking up a real DSLR flash? Well continue to tar up those lungs because that problem has been solved. Conveniently, an empty pack of cigarettes provides the perfect flash diffuser for the integrated flash lens of Canon DSLRs. Diffusing a flash prevents really washed-out images and make the lighting appear more natural. Hit the jump to see a before and after.

Cigarette Packet Flash Diffuser [instructables]

That's a very clever idea (and easy to make on the go). Otherwise, the the flashes on the (con/pro)sumer DSLRs are kinda useless. I totally would use one of my empty packs and try this out on my 10D if my 5D wasnt coming in today (no flash)...
Diffuse lighting FTW!
Which one is the better one?
Damn, I don't smoke cigarettes, time to start. Most diffusers work well but they are all overpriced. I've used a paper towel in the past.
go marlboro blend 27's!
i wonder how it'll work with a box of pfunks and a d200?
answer as soon as this pack is done with.
Good idea, too bad this will lower your built in flash' range from the already meger 10ft to probably around 3 or 4.
I've used everything lying around. a bit of Masking tape, receipt, whatever. Post-it's work well and because they are all different colors you can even create a bit of mood lighting.
increase the diffusion and decrease life expectancy... brilliant!
Jesse - try a coffee filter sometime.
Because turning off the flash and changing the aperture / shutter speed is just too much work?
(I know, I know -- but, it will likely yield far better results than a pack of smokes over your flash.)
ahh..27's..the bes cig in the world
