Here are more of those next gen Sony Ericsson phones. But for the first time, the photos are sharp enough that we'll consider em real. The rest of the facts are, well, not very forthcoming. But the source speculates the phone will be dubbed the W880, a follow up to the competent W850 and W810 Walkman phones: the cellies I credit SE's turnaround with. We spy a very 3G video conference cam on the front, too. This means we'll likely have to beg and plead for a US model.
A shame, because the backside is as nice as the front:

Probably the closest design we'll get to having a Talby (Marc Newson).

looks about as thick as a folded RAZR, which is pretty sweet.
Looks about as user friendly as a glass toothbrush.
ugg.
come on sony...apple is making an iphone...microsoft is making a zune phone...and this is their competition...?!
This phone looks ugly, a abit hefty. and the orange logo and ring...does not look cool, it looks tacky and out of place.
I don't know. I think the black one is quite nice.
There is no company that can rival sony ericsson in phones.
I prefer a modernist look, actually. Granted, this isn't the best example, but this looks better than about 90% of whats out there. Samsung being that 10% of the better.
looks kinda cheap. Those buttons are going to suck when it comes to texting, and the screen looks a little small for the size of the phone, i expect more from sony especially with the iPhone just around the corner. i will just stick to my W810.
I think you guys are missing the mark. Whether you do or don't like the look of this phone is irrelevant (absolutely no offence meant). What matters now is whether consumers as a whole like the way it looks. Personally I think it looks great on the front, pretty lousy on the back, but I'm from the UK so perhaps our tastes are different. I like the whole industrial look and having had 3 SEs before now (1 being a W600/W550) I'd say you can bet this will be pretty good, and pretty popular, even if it isn't just plain pretty.
Anywho, if it's available in the UK buy March, I'll snap one up.
@BobDenver: I've always thought Samsung have been a bit lazy in design, but the ULTRA range look pretty sweet. Nokia have always made cheap-ass feeling phones and Motorolas are such a bugger to use, they're not worth it IMO. The SE W600/W550 has that swivel-open design, that while it isn't very practical, is a bit of fun and passers-by think it looks impressive.
Pales in comparison to the Disney phone I just bought.
Nona
It's flat ugly. Oh, wait a second! It's an SE, what was I expecting?
Bionicsniper is smoking crack...
I guess Sony's design heyday was in the 80s, but really, why go back?
Retro is so 1999.
I'm betting this phone would look better in real life. Many times gadgets don't look as good in photos as they do in real life (The brown Zune, for example).
And when I was referring to Samsung, I did mean the ultra range. Those are some gorgeous phones.
Strange that we can't get a good look at the profile. I'd say from looking at the shadow and what else we can see that this phone is damn thin. Maybe a quarter of an inch. That'd make it the thinest and lightest 3G phone ever. Looks fantastic.
i dont think that any nokia phones are "cheap ass" -> most of them take alot of abuse. I myself prefer HTC phones ;), but I guess Sony Eri. are showing some beautiful designs and I might soon have to give my up HTC for one of these.
This is so obviously faked! Look carefully, and you'll see that this is nothing more than a steel shell, or skin, with a W800/W810 inside! It is a ugly shell made to "ruggedize" the phone.
Look closely, and this is nothing more than a steel skin or shell for the W800/W810! It is someone's poor attempt at ruggedizing the Sony phone. Look at Sony Ericsson's design's--none of it is as unrefined as this clunker.
It's very thin.
Ok this is a sexy looking phone and Walkman isn't a bad bit of software in SE phones, any idea what the included memory will be though?
well, its not mention that SE Ai (W880)has a slim body, its only thick as BST-33 (Sony ericsson batery), so its so good and is also eqip with external memory, 3G technology dan its walkman.
slim and walkman?? anyone can compare with that?
well, the article doesnt mention the most important aspect of SE AI (W880) which is its size.
its very slim, its thick is same as BST-33 (Sony Ericsson mobile phone batery), so its very thick.
its equip with M2 external memory, 2 mp camera, 3G technology and .......its walkman phone
so slim and walkman..... anything can compare with that??
This phone is plain ugly, and Sony Ericsson have failed to impress with this new Walkman model. I used to be Walkman Crazy, infact ive had every Walkman Phone exept the W900. It is a gimmic, which people need to overcome. I Now have the K800 which has a MP3 player which is not "Walkman" branded, but is exactly the same as a normal walkman phone, exept u cant scroll through music in the "Now Playing" Mode. But this is not a huge issue. People who buy a Sony Ericsson Phone just for its Nice Orange "W" symbol, have not done their homework!!
I was lucky enought to hold a demo version a few weeks ago. As a lover of the Samsung p300 sometimes seem to be the only person in the UK with one. I was waiting for a hone which acomblished the same dimensions with a few extras. The w880 does!! Its the same thinkness as the P300 (I held them both together)an d a little taller, but is supererior in its features. The Razo (good looking) but terriable interface come in fatter when closed. The only problem I have (baring in mind I was only holding a demo model) with the w880 is the bottons are smaller than a grain of rice!! I am a 6.1 ft guy and I have a feeling my hands just wont work well with the rather silly bottons! In all I feel somthing to get excited about, phone tend to be begger than they were in 1999 and have feature which dont work and are too expensive to use. I wants phone with some decent features that doesnt need to be worn on your belt! Love the P300 and have a feeling I may go out with the W880!
Well said cthom exactly my thoughts, I'm a UK P300 user too adn I get some stick for it ho0wever I like the size, just the Samsung OS is unuasble.
SE have the best usablity by far adn now in a small package , perfect.
