Danger Looks for Hardware Buddy

sidekick2.jpgDanger Inc., creator of the ever-so-trendy Sidekick, may be seeking a new partner-in-crime in the coming year. Danger initially dumped the hardware manufacturing of the Sidekick series over to Sharp so the company could focus more directly on the development of Sidekick software, but recently Danger's chief executive announced his company may be looking for a second hardware manufacturing partner soon. Motorola, anyone?

  • I would totally get it if the screen were a little bigger...oh well

  • I would totally get one if Cingular's unlimited data plan wasn't god awful expensive and the phone was a bit more tougher. My friends have had them and switched from them because it couldn't stand up to a couple drops, which let's face it, everyone has. Me probably a bit more than others. I've got butterfingers.

  • Ajkst1--I purposefully and accidentally dropped and threw my sidekick around countless times when I had mine. Nary a problem. I'm looking forward to seeing what aesthetic design changes parternering with another company will get them. The SK2 had some seriously great 80s butter-flavored Tie Fighter design going on, but Im open to seeing variants on the SK theme.

  • Danger meet Apple. Apple this is Danger, the guy I was telling you about. Danger made a sweet smartphone when everyone else was fumbeling around with Psions and Handspring Visors. Danger, Apple has a lot to offer with music on phones, but is kinda coming off of a rocky encounter with...well, let's just say things could have come out better. Ok, well I'll let you two get to know each other. Don't forget to invite me to the wedding!

  • Motorola. Remember the weird Sidekick RAZR on t-mobile's secret document?

  • Moto perhaps. HTC, maybe. What I think they need is someone to support the designs that come from the Danger/Sharp manufcaturing, because they constantly run out of stock. I think they are just looking for someont to pick up the slack - not introduct new designs. Danger still designs everything, they hold the patents, and so forth. Sharp just builds and is partnered with them for innovations. Plantronics used to do the manufacturing, and that was a joke. Sideboob!

  • So apparently Sharp was the one responsible for releasing that roadmap picture last week...
