Samsung e635 by T-Mobile USA

T-Mobile launched the Samsung e635 recently, adding even more Samsung goodness to its lineup. Nothing much to see here; it's a slider phone with a VGA camera, 20MB internal memory, 128 x 160 pixel 65k color display, and a speakerphone. As with most T-Mobile phones, you can also IM and browse the web via GPRS. It weighs in at only 2.78 oz, which is good for those worried about gadgets weighing them down. Goes for about $150 after rebate and a year's contract. More »

Fake MP3 Players Hit the Market, Cheapskates Rejoice

Frugal people (like myself) would say that counterfeit products is probably the best gift giving idea ever, especially if the person receiving the fake has no clue whether it is real or not. Well, now my Christmas worries are over. Some Korean MP3 player manufacturers are complaining about the Chinese companies who are making knockoffs of their products. Some of the brands of MP3 players being duped are LG, Samsung and ReignCom (makers of the iRiver line). Looks like my family are all getting brand new Prodo bags and Sumsang MP3 players this year! Pantech PG-8000: It's a Phone Disguised as a Camera

We mentioned the Pantech PG-8000 a few months ago when it debuted at a Russian trade show. Well now it has launched in Korea. A refresher: if you thought the Nokia N90 looked freakishly like a camera, you haven't seen anything yet. The Pantech PG-8000 looks almost exactly like a compact digicam, save for a small number keypad at the back. It's a 2 megapixel camera with a huge 2-inch horizontal LCD display, truly giving it that digicam look. And just for kicks, it also throws in music playback functionality in there, supporting MP3, AAC, and even an FM tuner (We're betting that a lot more phones will have music playback to keep up with the rumored iTunes phone). The PG-8000 also has IrDA, Bluetooth, and the ability to sync it via USB. Pretty sweet... if you live in the region. No idea if this will make it stateside. More »

UFO? No, Glowtronix

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, look! Cheap plastic junk that does very little other than light up! I can't WAIT to get my hands on these, um, FABULOUS prizes! The watch? Maybe my five year old cousin could wow his kindergarten pals with the glowing watch, but what kind of dweeb is really going to don those sunglasses or the nifty "Abduction" keychain? Please don't asnwer that. More »

Rumor, Rumor, iToil and iTrouble

Man, now I'm getting kind of confused. It is not like Apple to screw up a launch like this. Motorola and Apple both have some REALLY BIG NEWS coming out on September 7th, but both of them announced a BIG BIG PARTY at once, which makes me think that Apple might have a few things to show, not just one iPod Phone. The fact that Motorola's launch cooincides with Apple's launch obviously points to the ROXR coming to fruition, but considering the secrecy of Apple's past launches, this is a massive breach, even if it's caused by a partner. I'm kinda worried they might be releasing the iPod Tickle, an iPod vibrator. More »

September 7: Your Lucky Day?

Hmmm... Apple and Motorola goodness on the same day. This wouldn't have anything to do with a fabled phone that plays iTunes music? Nah, probably totally unrelated. Just a party, to celebrate, you know, those new iDen models. More »

Mazda's USB Starter Key

Mazda is trying to bond with its future drivers by installing a "USB stick key"—or flash drive—instead of the traditional cylinder lock key system. Yes, this means you'll be able to start your car with a USB dongle as well as transfer driving directions and music to the internal hard drive of this concept car, dubbed the Sassou. Being shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show, this 3-door hatchback design concept is, if you don't mind the reference, somewhat pod-like (REALLY pod-like, unlike the iPod, which is not technically pod-like at all). Crush the Competition with the Hummer Laptop

Ahnold is going to go apeshit now that General Motors signed a 3-year deal with computer maker Itronix to make a Hummer-branded laptop. These are designed for not only Hummer enthusiasts, but for people who "work outdoors" such as police, firefighters, and construction workers. Durability doesn't come cheap though, at $2,988, the laptops come with enough padding to survive six separate drops from a height of 30 inches onto two 3/4-inch sheets of plywood placed on top of concrete. The specs include a 1.86GHz Intel Centrino Pentium processor, a 12.1-inch color display, 512MB of memory, a DVD/CD-R/W combination drive, 802.11a/g/b wireless connectivity and Microsoft's XP Professional operating system. But that's not all, you also get a bunch of stuff you will probably never use. Check it: More »

New iDen's Identified

Motorola is preparing some new launches for its less glamourous line of iDen phones. They don't get names like RAZR or The Pebble, but these mobiles are always hearty and well-made for those of you who may actually use them for more than a fashion statement. The FCC has filed some details and what we know of now is three phones: the i870, the i450 and the i415. Two of the new phones use BOOST mobile for walkit talkie service and the flagship i870 has a 1.3 megapixel camera with flash, bluetooth, MP3 player with external controls, WiDEN high speed data and a push-to-open hinge.
