Seems like we were just talking about the Blackberry 8703e rolling out RIM's door, and now here's a picture and a partial spec list of the Blackberry 8800. Unlike its CDMA-only 8703e brandmate, this one will support GSM/GPRS, EDGE, and—wait for it—WiFi. It looks thinner than its predecessors, and it has a 320x240 screen, Bluetooth 2.0, a full QWERTY keypad and of course, that addicting, homewrecking Blackberry email.
If this baby is as thin as the spec list says, (exactly how thick is "ultrathin," anyway?), it looks like Blackberry could be catching up to the rest of the techno-world. Our interest is piqued. There's a whole lot more info; take a look at the spec list and an all-angles pic, after the jump.

What, no scroll wheel!!!? Ahhhhhhhhh!
It's what the pearl rim should have been.!!
It's going to be nice.
:-)
no scroll wheel!!! my thumb will never been the same... although I did here that other versions may have it...
RIMM is moving away from the scroll wheels in favor ot the trac-ball. Appearently in order to make the devices thinner. You see Motorola holds the patent on thinner scroll wheels and thinn smart phones (MOTO "Q") and will never ever give it up...not even in a hundred million billion zillion years, not never no...An RIMM could never ever eximine a MOTO "Q" to try and keep the scroll wheel.
3g?
This may just replace my MDA. Very nice.
they should keep the scroll wheel and put the volume buttons on the top of the phone. easier on the thumb.
they should call it the Blackberry 8800 "Mother of Pearl"
Anyone else notice that the main pic and sub-pic are different form factors?
RIM usually makes several different "form factors" of each model of Blackberry (for example the 7100t, 7100g, and 7100x) but the guts inside are the same.
Same form factor, different sub-models. The main pic is actually an 8800 with camera (note the extra button on the right side).
...and in regard to the article -- since when is technology soleley rated on thinness? Oh yeah, when it's average Joe consumers buying into the RAZR hype...
Do 8800 have a camera?? and when will it be out??
The ideal blackberry should come with all the features of the upcomming 8800 but also include support for spreadsheets, word files & powerpoint integration. If the treo can do it so should the blackberry models.
No camera. No place for one. Extra button is for voice activated dialing
anyone know what company is selling this baby
The lack of camera is very likely due to the continuing internal restrictions that many corporations have to safeguard privacy and confidentiality. Our corporate policy was no camera phones, but this has been recently amended however many of our clients still restrict cameras from their facilities.
I have a Pearl myself and don''t seem to greatly miss the full keyboard, although it would make for slightly faster typing. I like the trackball and don't miss the trackwheel.
Oh, thank God! The 8800 has just about everything I've been whining about missing on my current 8700g. I love my phone, but I look forward to dumping it on some cheap bastard on eBay once my yearly contract comes up and I can get a discounted 8800.
Expandable memory, video streaming and trackball, oh my! I do wish they'd make it a touch screen, with or without a stylus, but at least it's not that annoyingly basic scroll wheel. Anyone else about broke their thumb off trying to navigate a web site like Sports Illustrated?
It'd be nice if their web browser didn't feel like it was made out of chicken wire like the 8700g's. I only use it for CNN.com and SI.com. Otherwise I just use Opera Mini for all my internet usage.
Another thing I would like to be able to do is link pictures to my address book so their pictures come up when I get a call from them like some phones allow you to do.
The scroll wheel was the one single appreciable thing about Blackberries. The trackball crap won't do the same thing to one-handed usage that a scroll wheel did. That's one major oversight.
Second, I presume the TFT screen and this jazz doesn't make the reaction time of BB's interface as clunky as Nokia 73's. Slim and all is fine. That's not why BB audience buys BB.
What I have failed to see anyone ask, is will the new 8800 crimson version come in a different color? I like the black color on the indigo version. Plus the gray color doesnt look nice at all. That is the only downside I can see for the new 8800.
